The inn had wonderful views of the surrounding forest and bay, in the perfect location halfway up Mt. Tamalpais. I was able to see the peak of Mt. Tam and Muir woods in one day. My room and bed were cozy and had a wonderful balcony view. The balcony was spacious and had two rocking chairs. I enjoyed sitting there and enjoying the nature with my morning coffee. It's a great place to stay to get away from the city if you're staying in San Francisco and need a get away. The Mountain has beautiful trees and microclimates that feel magical to explore. Susan greated me at the continental breakfast buffet and made me feel very welcomed. The breakfast area had a gorgeous painting and the lobby looked freshly renovated with a modern look. I loved the natural lighting with the sky light and big windows. I hope to come back soon.

This is a tricky review to do because in some ways we found the place cozy and comfortable. My issue is that it is expensive (we paid almost $500 for one night) for what it is and honestly even the location, beautiful as it is, wasn't exactly as expected. This is the thing - it feels REALLY untaken-care of in some ways. Almost like it was established and then fell into the hands of 1-3 employees who show up to do all the things. It feels a bit of disrepair and neglected. Also, we had a queen bed which was our bad when booking (room 10) but watch when you book that you read the room description carefully. Food was meh that we ordered to sit on the gorgeous porch looking out (the view is great!) but the continential breakfast was interesting. On one hand it was annoying to have to do all the things (like, figure out the coffee maker and microwave the pie etc) but on the other hand that quiche was DELICIOUS once I figured out how to use the microwave, lol. It ended up being a "just fine" breakfast, so maybe go into it with a bit more better attitude than, "I paid $500 for this?" and maybe you'll enjoy it more haha. Overall, the cost is a lot. I really wished I had stayed in an airbnb (or hotel) in Mill valley instead. We went to dinner in Mill Valley (bet you will too) so if we had stayed in town we could have walked. Granted - you may want to do walks from the hotel. Bed was cozy and shower hot - I never used the tub but it looked inviting. Oh, lastly there is no one at the hotel after hours so the VERY LOUD kids at midnight was a pain in the butt that I had to handle myself. Walls are THIN. Get a room on the upper floor if you can to avoid.

We had to change plans in late June, 2025, and were charged a $25 per night penalty. This was never mentioned when we booked three nights there. Be aware before you book.

After learning about Mountain Home Inn from an acquaintance I decided it would make the perfect short getaway for a low-key birthday, as it happens, my husband and I couldn't have been happier with our choice. As is often the case with me, I read the reviews and then count on my intuition to guide me in the right direction. Fair warning, however, if you're looking for a high-end hotel experience, the Hilton or the Ritz with all their amenities then, admittedly, this is probably not your cup of tea. If you're the least bit spoiled and require being coddled and pampered around the clock you might want to look elsewhere. If, on the other hand, you genuinely cherish fresh air, being surrounded by glorious nature, sweeping views; proximity to the best hiking trails Mill Valley has to offer, well, look no further than Mt. Home Inn. Trust me, it won’t disappoint! You can roll out of bed and hike to the peak of Mt. Tamalpais, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views, drop into the visitor center, or embark on short hikes to further explore the summit. There’s also the incomparable flora and fauna of Muir Woods or, if you prefer, a quiet afternoon lazying about at Stinson Beach. Mt. Home Inn has unequivocally the best perch of any lodging in Mill Valley with so much to beckon the heart and soul. Now, don’t get me wrong, a little pampering’s also quite possible here; with a quick drive down the hill to a comforting lap of luxury or the center of town with its spas, massage parlors, great dining choices, and small boutique shopping all for your pleasure. In other words, you get it all here; the funky down-to-earth vibe Mill Valley is famous for, including the wonderful staff and engaging owner of Mt. Home Inn; who went out of their way to make our stay and my birthday a huge and happy success. Everyone we encountered during our stay was equally appreciative of the unique experience that Mountain Home Inn offers. If you're ready to put aside any need for room service, a full kitchen, a bar, and a gym, you’ll find yourself exceedingly grateful on this trip back in time to the quiet, tranquil, and scenic offerings of Mountain Home Inn.

I had such a great visit at the Mountain Home Inn! The staff is friendly and professional, and the view is unmatched. The room itself was so comfortable and the private patio overlooking the mountain and water was stunning. The continental breakfast was elevated and exactly what I needed before a long drive. I would definitely come back here, and have already recommended it to all my friends.

Was disappointed to find the restaurant changed to a grab and go style with sub par food. It was our favorite place to go for many, many years with friends for a proper post hike lunch. Perhaps bring back table service and a full menu on the weekends? Wasn't busy on a beautiful Sunday afternoon which it usually is. Maybe the change is why....

My stay at Mountain Home Inn was thoroughly disappointing, plagued by pervasive filth and shocking neglect. The room was unclean, with dust blanketing surfaces, cobwebs draped above the TV, a stained carpet, and someone else’s food festering in the microwave. The coffee machine was grimy, never rinsed. The property/furniture was outdated and falling apart: a broken glass lampshade, a loose back door doorknob, and a non-functional bathroom heater. The walls were scarred with gashes and scuff marks, adding to the rundown feel. The bathroom was appalling. The shower, a copper pipe rigged above a non-operable jacuzzi tub, would be inaccessible for many, with a disgusting, moldy shower curtain. The toilet had a yellow ring and a wobbly seat, while the sink drained painfully slowly. A dim bulb made the space feel like a cave, and a hole in the wall from a bathrobe hook—caused by a broken doorstop—went unfixed. The blow dryer, plugged into a faulty GFI outlet, was unusable in the bathroom, forcing use in the bedroom, which lacks a mirror. Rusted miniblinds on a window between the bedroom and bathroom, filthy ceiling and floor vents, and cracked silicone caulking on the tub’s tile and grout screamed neglect/unprofessional. Only one towel rack meant wet towels had nowhere to dry, and we had to request a room refresh after the second night, which should’ve been standard. Outside, the table and chairs were caked in dirt, completely unusable. This B&B’s failure to maintain basic cleanliness and functionality made our stay miserable. Major improvements/new ownership are essential before it’s remotely recommendable.

This is a charming, rustic B & B We have been here before and the views and quaintness can't be beat. The lunch and dinner food and service was terrific. The breakfast options were good, but the quiche was soggy and the service a little helter skelter. I believe they were short of help, so this may be the reason. Kelly worked sooo hard at managing service for lunch and dinner and the checkin. She was always very positive and made each guest feel special. I don't know how she managed being everything to everyone, but she did. Victor stayed very busy and pleasant while serving and clearing dishes. It was no small task with all the patrons. What a gorgeous deck and view for eating. Overall, an excellent experience!
