Wayside Inn

We arrived very late but man from the bar was extremely helpful and walked us to our room. Was a nice place to sleep, wish we had more time to explore.

It was quaint and interesting, but beware if you don’t like the smell of antiques. I had to track down staff to check in and call the manager who frankly seemed a bit miffed that I called her. Staff member was friendly upon arrival. Water pressure in the shower was not great, although the room was clean.

We arrived to find the hostess waiting in the car park for us. She said she had to go home to get her overnight bags but would show us the room before she left. We were the only people staying in the whole hotel. The pub/ restaurant was closed. We went out in the village for some food and returned in the dark a couple of hours later to find the hotel still deserted. The rooms did not have any tea/coffee making facilities so we had to go and find some (we had not been shown where this was). Most of the hotel was in semi darkness. All of the other guest room doors were open but empty. Some rooms were in total darkness as we walked through the hotel. It was all very creepy. The coffee machine was found but there were no cups so we had to look into cupboards to find some! We went to bed with no staff or other guests in the hotel and woke up/ left the hotel at 7.30 in the same situation. The room was okay but there were cobwebs in the corners of the room, the bathroom also did not feel particularly cared for. The whole experience was rather like being in a creepy reality tv show!
