Great ambience & a wonderfully welcoming team. Delicious selection of locally sourced produce - difficult to choose! Steak tartare, double baked cheese soufflé & cod in parsley sauce with lyonnaise potatoes & a green salad ticked all the boxes. This place is a local gem.

Sunday lunch . Very disappointing . Pork overcooked , hard to cut, carrots almost raw. Beef was nice but I have a small appetite and it was just enough for me , others would want more I am sure. Potatoes were not crispy. Overall it was poor and not very good value for money . Would not recommend I’m afraid . Sorry

Brilliant stay from start to finish! Friendly & welcoming staff on arrival, accommodation (in courtyard) was very spacious, super king bed, large bathroom & shower. Tastefully furnished & decorated, very comfortable. Spotlessly clean throughout. Food excellent, dinner - good choice, perfectly cooked & presented. Good wine list included several in Carafe size if you don’t want a full bottle. Breakfast equally impressive, choice of cold cereals & fruits, list of classic breakfasts, egg dishes & breakfast sandwiches. Our smashed avocado & poached eggs on sourdough was the best I have ever had (perfect egg cooking - rare in my opinion!) Locally sourced ingredients a bonus and very high quality. Could not fault a thing! please don’t change your very high standards, glad we discovered this gem, will be happy to return.

I have been to this pub over many years but can honestly say will not be going back. It was a total rip off. My wife and her friend both had smoked salmon as a starter. It was 3 tiny strips of smoked salmon with a few lettuce leaves at £16.95 a portion. My friend and I had Queen scallops which were 5 tiny scallops at £15 per portion. We followed this with steak frites which were all overcooked and crusty at £19.25 per portion. We had 1 bottle of Viognier at £42.50 plus a bottle of sparkling water at £4.75. I have eaten in many many restaurants world wide but feel totally ripped off by the quality and prices of this menu. I understand that the owner is the ex wife of a Michelin starred chef Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall so should be able to do better. Am happy to pay Michelin starred prices for Michelin quality food but this was a total rip off and we will never be going back in spite of going many many times whilst under the previous owners.

My husband and I stayed here a few years ago for a couple of nights and decided we would call for lunch and were greeted/not greeted by a dour barman who we felt was in the wrong job. He was the first port of call on entering, there was no good afternoon, he was in effect totally oblivious to us being there at all. He was miserable, did not smile and everything seemed to be a total effort for him and nothing about his whole manner to endear him to the public. At this juncture we were undecided whether to stay for lunch but as my husband had ordered drinks we decided to see what the food was like. Lunch was acceptable, certainly not outstanding and pricey. Waitresses lifted the falling spirits, they were pleasant and efficient. We shall not be returning in the near future.

Fantastic location, staff, food and rooms - number 15 was astonishing - its the best cooked breakfast I have enjoyed in years - all here was magnificent - thank you to Mel and all and we look forward to visiting again very soon - a real rural and quality getaway spot.

Really lovely room and the food was fabulous. The head chef is outstanding and the menu wonderful with changes ahead I believe. The best of luck because the team work hard and long and I would recommend eating there at least if you cannot stay over.

We dined and they got the order wrong. We all wanted steak frites but got the main steak at more than double the price. Waitress was aggressive and adamant we were wrong. They did knock iff the wine but hey customer is not king anymore at this place where I have been going for 30 years. Perhaps not again. I am local and word get round.

The Blue Lion in East Witton is an absolute gem. Every time we’ve visited, the experience has been nothing short of five star. The food is consistently excellent, with high quality ingredients and expertly cooked dishes that showcase the best of traditional British cuisine. What makes The Blue Lion stand out even more is its warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place that accommodates both families and their dogs, making it perfect for a relaxed meal after exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The service is always friendly and attentive, adding to the overall charm of the pub. By far one of my favourite restaurants, and whenever we’re in the area, we make a point of visiting. If you’re looking for fantastic food, great hospitality, and a quintessential country pub experience, The Blue Lion is a must visit.
