Hampton Inn & Suites Michigan City

Not clean, noisy. Staff not real friendly - no mention of internet connection or directions as to breakfast or hotel amenities like pool workout. The laundry chute door that was so squeaky and noisy, with cleaning crews going in and out starting at 7am was just too much. Bedding didn’t look like it was changed but sprayed with freshener - blood stains on bed duster and mattress cover - just disgusting.

Me and my wife with 2 kids came to Long Beach for the 4th of July weekend and booked this hotel. As soon as we checked into our room my wife immediately noticed human hair all over the made bed. The whole bed was covered with them under the sheets. (Photos are attached). I went downstairs to ask to be switched into a different room and without any issues we were. Second room was much better besides a couple bugs crawling on the blinds, which I can understand. Second room turned out to also have dirty sheets, which at that point we just stripped and left on the floor because we have a 2 year old and a newborn (5 weeks) and were just exhausted. As anyone with a baby knows sometimes there’s nothing you can do if the baby is fussy, while we were calming out son down and feeding him we received a phone call from front desk… she said she was calling us because there’s a baby crying and pretty much told us that we have to keep the noise down (shut our baby up). Assuming it was from a room next to us I was hoping to see them to apologize for any noise but the gentlemen that stayed next to us actually found us and told us that they never asked to call and watched the front desk call and tell us that there was a complain. Neighbors said they felt awful and embarrassed and angry that front desk even did that when they only asked to be switched to a different room if it was available. I made a complaint twice to speak with a GM but never heard from her/him. I called the location twice after we checked out in the next two weeks period and left voicemails and still no call back so review had to be done. I write this for the families that might be thinking about staying there because no parent should go through what we went through from start to finish.

I chose this hotel because it had a higher rating than most in the area and that were closer to Indiana Dunes. Check in was fine it’s not that important to me but staff was not that friendly. Room was clean but could use more attention in corners of bathroom. Hallway had obvious spots and dusty corners as well. Overall not bad. Coffee was good.

We stay at Hampton Inns often as we think they're one of the best reasonably priced hotel chains. Cleanliness rating was probably influenced by age of building.

Everything was excellent except the tile around the pool area is very slippery . May I suggest rubber mats to prevent injuries .
