1840 Guest House

My wife and I stayed two nights, and although breakfast is no longer given, it was still the gold standard of B&B. The accommodations were 5 star. The amenities, cleanliness and attention to detail in our room, common areas or pool and landscaping areas was also 5 star. It is 'boutique hotel' at its finest. The lovely and picturesque town of Merrickville, its lovely shoppes and restaurants situated on the Rideau Canal, all within easy walking distance of the property. If you want to visit this Ontario crown, then add the jewel and stay at the 1840 Guest House. You won't be disappointed .

We recently stayed in Merrickville @ The 1840 Guesthouse for 4 nights to explore the area, visit with family and soak up some Canadian history. The 1840 Guesthouse is a beautiful place to stay in Merrickville on the Rideau. Its accomodations are modern and very well cared for by Carolyn & John...and it shows. It's spotless. The old school house is spectacular with its limestone walls and beautiful decor. The "backyard" is a little oasis with a pool, sauna, hot tub, BBQ and loungers. There's lots of parking. Provided in our room were coffee pods for the Keurig Coffee maker, a few nice snacks, a bar fridge with milk & cream, pool towels and black out shades. Each room has its own ensuite washroom. Our room (#4) had lots of room for 2 people with a large closet. We slept well. If we needed plates glasses or cutlery it was immediately available in the school house as well as ice & a microwave. It's within walking distance of all kinds of historic Merrickville attractions like the locks (21-23), The Block House, The Ruins, and then there's restaurants, cafes, bakeries, coffee shop, ice cream & a gelato shop along the Rideau River. Going and coming from the Guesthouse property is seamless and secure. Our stay was comfy and whether we were going or coming Carolyn was there to greet us. I highly recommend this accommodation if your in the Merrickville area. It's well priced for the amenities that's provided. Thanks for your hospitality...we'll be back.

Absolutely amazing clean,welcoming, elegantly decorated, posh hotel right in the town of Merrickville-Wolford overlooking Rideau canal. Enjoyed every minute in it. Hot tub, swimming pool and sauna - all well maintained, robs provided. All those credenzas in hallways with books and fine china , paintings. That feeling of being pampered by really attentive hosts that pay attention to the smallest details!

I recently stayed with a couple friends for a night and we will definitely be back. Great reviews, the relaxed reservation policy and the ability to book three rooms each with private washroom made our decision easy and this beautiful B & B did not disappoint. Carolyn and her adorable dogs greeted us like old friends, provided excellent info, created an amazing charcuterie board and equally delicious breakfast. The rooms were spotless, everything you needed and the balcony overlooking the pool was perfect to enjoy a couple glasses of wine. Merrickville is a small village and therefore the location is great with a delicious pizza restaurant with creative choices across the street. We definitely plan to return and will include neighbouring towns in our shopping plans as well next time.

The B&B is in a beautiful small historical town, which made the stay that more enjoyable. Carolyn and John were awesome hosts, they explained every detail we needed for a great stay and also explained the interesting history of the B&B. The breakfast was fantastic every morning, if we tired of touring around we enjoyed the pool and hot tub and enjoyed a game of pool at night. Very clean and comfortable rooms, great time.

Impeccable service. Our room was large & beautifully appointed with all of the amenities that you could want. The 1840 Guest House is located on a quiet residential street within easy walking distance of good restaurants, cafes, & quaint shops. The B&B overlooks the Rideau Canal with lovely views. Carolyn, the owner was friendly, knowledgeable of the area, & very helpful when we were planning our daily activities. Duke & Duchess, the family dogs, were so welcoming & very entertaining. Our breakfasts were delicious & quite unique. We have stayed at Bed & Breakfasts all over North America & would classify this property as the best. We are already planning our next visit so would highly recommend the 1840 Guest House. The Macklins

Excellent stay, would return in a heartbeat. Superbly presented and sparklingly clean. Great facilities and a great breakfast to cap off a wonderful experience. Owner is really friendly and helpful and was on hand to serve drinks in the evening - there’s a wide variety of beers and whiskey to sample!

The 1840 Guest House is a gem of an inn right in the heart of beautiful Merrickville. Carolyn, who is a co-proprietor, is a charming person who went out of her way to make our stay a truly special one. The inn itself is warm and cozy, and we were very happy with the room we chose (#1), which was spacious, nicely decorated, with wonderful views of the Rideau Canal and the surrounding countryside. Carolyn‘s breakfast was a real treat featuring a different sumptuous special every day. We are already planning our next trip to Merrickville and the 1840 Guest House.
