Four of us rented #20 Ocean Song house. We stayed from October 9th to the 13th. The house was very shabby. There was a very loud leak in the downstairs bathroom which we called about at least three times. On the third they sen fianllysent a maintenance man who was unable to fix the leak. He told us to put a towel down to block the sound. He left and never told us if he was coming back. He never came back. I left my new robe and nightgown in the bathroom on the upper level. I called three times right away and wrote three email. The young man I spoke with said that he would check with the cleaners the next day but no on ever called me back. I tried to call today and the phone just rang and rang but no one ever answered. I wrote the manager specifically, to check and see if my robe and nightgown was found. The manager never answered my email nor did I ever hear back from anyone. We have stayed at MacCallum house for quite a few years. We have noticed a worn, tired, shabby look of all the rooms as of late. We have always stayed there but will now look for another place. We love Mendocino and are sorry to see this proud old lady becomes so dowdy and worn. I have tried to contact the owner but no one has gotten back to me. It is now like an inn being run by no one. No one cares. That is obvious. I'm wondering if the property is being sold and that's why no one will call back. It is insulting after spending over $1900 to be totally ignored. They don't deserve the loyalty that we have shown to them. Well, sorry, we won't be back. Francine Willison-Perry

The fried CHICKEN was served to us COMPLETELY RAW. Not a little pink, but completely raw pink flesh! My husband had to bite into it to notice! The waitress apologized but the manager told her we still had to pay for it. PAY FOR RAW CHICKEN! Needless to say I refused. Talk about unprofessional and adding insult to injury. They could have made us seriously ill! We will never be back. On top of it all the rest of our food tasted like old pre-made food you would get at a bad wedding. The steak was barely warm, dried out, and pre sliced.

I stayed at the suites of Mac Callum house, in the upper part of town. The place, building and views are very beautiful. This is not a cheap place, we are talking $400+ a night. The bedding is simply very very bad and quite frankly unacceptable for this price range. There is no duvet, just polyester sheets (or a cotton mix at best), with one of these brown, old blankets that not even hospitals have anymore. To me and many others bedding and mattress are the most importantly things, so I encourage the hotel to take care of this if they want to charge these prices.

This was probably my twelfth stay at MacCallum and my worst experience in all the years I have been visiting. We stayed in a suite located up the road from the main house. The building was not being well maintained and staff do not respond when you report repairs that need attention. Cleanliness and upkeep not to expectations for the price. Luckily the room was booked during a half-price discount period.

We spent two nights in the MacCallum house suites. These are located a car ride away from the main hotel, where you check in. There are two steep staircases to get to the front desk, which we climbed, with suitcases. When we got to the top the desk told us our rooms were not in that building. No one offered to help us with our luggage, despite the fact that there were staff around. When we finally got to our building, we found another two flights of stairs to get to our room. No staff present at the second building to assist with luggage. It would have been nice to know this when we made the reservation. The room itself is very dated, with no air conditioning, which is a problem in the summer months. The bathroom is poorly designed and the tub had mold. The sink and the tub did not drain well and we wound up taking showers in ankle deep cold water. We asked the desk to send someone up to fix the drains and despite being told someone would come up, the situation was unchanged. When I called the front desk to ask again about this, no one answered, at 2:30 pm. So I gave up and am writing this review instead. Normally I would speak to a manager before writing a review. We had a good evening meal at the restaurant but breakfast was difficult. Breakfast is included in the room rate. When I asked for a cappuccino, I was told it wasn’t included in the breakfast. Not given an option to simply pay for it. I said I didn’t mind paying extra for it. When I asked for the oat milk cappuccino I had had the night before, I was told they had no oat or soy milk. When I said I had had an oat milk cappuccino the night before, the woman shrugged and then produced the desired coffee. My husband asked for orange juice and was told there was none, period. He later asked what someone else was drinking and she said grapefruit juice, which he then had to ask for. Allof this was aggravating and simply unnecessary. The same woman added a 30% gratuity onto the bill (for the cappuccino). Who needs this at a so-called luxury accommodation? We will not return and I advise others to avoid this place as well.

MacCallum house has been our yearly vacation spot for better part of a decade now. All staff members are super friendly and helpful. The cute dog-friendly cottages with little yards are great for us who want to take our furry friends with, and those hot tubs can't be beat after a long day outdoors! Food in the house restaurant is good and locally sourced. All the troubles just melt away and life finds its stress free rhythm in this chill, beautiful place. We'll be back soon again!

Lovely small town on a wild coast. We recently stayed at this property for 3 nights. We stayed in a King bedded room in the Suites. I suggest you review the website information and discuss with the property your requirements before selecting a room type. The breakfast at the property was very relaxed and enjoyable. One thing worth noting the tap water was not wonderful and we switched to bottled water.

The grounds are like a botanical garden! How did they get everything to bloom at once? The restaurant served us a memorably delicious dinner and two delightful breakfasts (included with room). My friends and I enjoyed the steamy hot tub in the cool Mendocino nights. The bed was super comfortable and I had sweet dreams. My bathroom was spotless and bright with skylights. Best of all, the attentive staff responded to our requests promptly and went above and beyond to please. My friends and I look forward to making our stay here a regular event.

What a magic place! Took the kids and grandkids for the weekend. The staff was gracious, the breakfast exceptional, and one of the best dinners I have ever had. I love the little details in the rooms, everything is so well appointed. The cocktail menu was exciting and tasty. The food was super delicious, with organic ingredients and locally sourced where available. We will definitely go back!
