While the hotel is set in a beautiful area, just nine minutes from a stunning beach near Falmouth, I must be blunt: I wouldn’t stay here again. Our experience started on a rocky note with a young, somewhat overwhelmed staff member greeting us late on Friday. When I asked for an iron, she admitted she didn’t know where to find one and suggested it might be brought up after 9 a.m. the next day. We were leaving at 8:30 a.m. – hardly helpful. My husband then asked for a glass of wine, and although there’s no bar, she offered to bring it up from the restaurant. It arrived nearly an hour later; she’d apparently forgotten our room number. It set the tone for what turned out to be a weekend full of unfortunate details. Our first night was loud, with people running up and down the corridor and significant noise from next door. Then came breakfast – minimal variety and disappointing quality. My husband left half his order on the table. Returning late Saturday night, we found the front door locked with a number to call for access. After multiple unanswered calls, we finally reached a groggy staff member who let us in, although my husband had by then found the unmarked side door. Another night’s sleep was interrupted by loud guests and thin walls. To top it off, the bathroom layout is an oversight at best: the shower window is so low and open that it gives diners in the restaurant a free view, leaving privacy at risk. And the windows themselves lack safety stops – not exactly confidence-inspiring. The gardens, though lovely in photos, are clearly difficult to maintain and looked scruffy in person. Pathways are overgrown, and any dreams of enjoying morning coffee with a view of the ponds quickly vanished. All in all, if you’re after a genuinely relaxing, four-star experience, look elsewhere. There’s potential here, but the lack of attention to detail was too evident to overlook.
