My wife and I checked into the Comfort Suites in Mattoon, IL, yesterday for a 3 night stay. This morning we went to begin moving my mother in law to a memory care center and, upon our return at 7:00, we found that none of the towels had been replaced and our room hadn’t been touched. I went to the front desk to find out why and was told that I needed to tell the front desk that I wanted service of my room. Seriously? The signs in the bathroom say that if we leave the towels on the floor they will be replaced with clean ones. The front desk told me that I should have been told on check in that this is the process and it’s DUE TO COVID!!! Seriously? So, I was given two new sets of towels to take back to my room. I then proceeded to go for ice and found this sign… IMG_1026 So we went upstairs to find a working ice machine. So, after that I put on swim trunks and headed to the pool/spa. I found a sign that said "Closed". So, I chose this hotel due to the presence of a spa. I PRESUMED that there would be daily replenishment of our linens and that there would be a working ice machine. I was wrong on all accounts. I asked to speak directly with the manager tomorrow.I was waiting for him to come in and had a difficult conversation with him. He just laughed and refused to adjust my bill. PS: We also found the breakfast was out of coffee. When the lady came with new pots she just sat down and waited for people to finish or something. The floor was a mess. I just dismissed that as an off day until I discovered the rest of the issues. It seems like there is a complete management breakdown. Seriously? PSS: I am a ChoiceHotels member but I probably won’t be acquiring a lot of points if there are others options to select where I travel. PSSS: There is more! I used the stool in room 118 and it plugged. I got a plunger from the front desk and attempted to clear it. After many attempts I returned to the front desk to ask for a plumber. She had to call the manager, Sean, who said he would call someone. He called her back and told her that he couldn’t get anyone to come until morning. I asked to be moved to another room and I was told that the hotel was totally booked. Luckily the assistant manager called and suggested that they check on a room to see if it was actually being used. It was not so, at 9:30 we packed our belongings and moved ourselves to a different room. What a disaster. The only thing else that could go wrong would be for my car to be broken into. I was charged full fare for this disaster of a stay. Amazing. But true.
