I spent a night here recently. The staff are all really friendly and make you feel welcome. We didn’t use the pub, just for a quick breakfast the following morning so I can’t comment on that aspect however it is clearly full of character and is situated in a great spot for exploring. Unfortunately the accommodation was a bit of a let down. The room we had is in need of updating, the bathroom was very small, nowhere to put anything. The tiles in the shower were mouldy which is off-putting, the extractor vent was really grubby and the general standard of the finishing in the room was poor. As there is no natural light it seemed to highlight all of these issues. It all felt very tired. The bedroom itself was clean although the carpet was a bit marked. The beds were ok, the bedding was spotless as were the towels. There were 2 tiny mirrors so not ideal when trying to get ready. All in all a bit disappointing.

A bright and airy double room in the converted barn, making it peaceful away from the sounds from the bar. Good quality breakfast nicely cooked and served in the bar. Be aware The Duke of Wellington is at the top of a steep hill on the edge of town.

What a gem of a find! The room is clean, bed comfortable, biscuits and chocolates on arrival. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food is reasonably priced, plentiful and very tasty. Would highly recommend - we had a continental breakfast which we would also highly recommend.

After a long and difficult day’s ride we arrived at 7 ish and was greeted by a well meaning female member of staff. Before we had the keys or the room I was told that I would have to pay for breakfast up front and that we had till 19.30 to order food at the kitchen was being closed (on a Friday… oh but football was on!!) We unloaded the bikes, got in the room and quickly tidied ourselves up. On ordering food I was told that they might be out of fish… I was in luck but when it turned up the batter was wet and uncooked… !! I scraped it off as we had no other option but to have what was presented (I was famished) and ate the fish, chips and peas along with the crispy onion ordered. Once finished our plates were cleared and the same female as before asked if the fish was ok … yes apart from the batter! She made an excuse that they had cooked a great deal of fish that evening and that the oil want up to temperature (I guessed that the fryer had been switched off tbh) The break fast was lack lustre and the woman serving was clearing away as we ate. The coffee was from a machine and my mates tea didn’t turn up till we’d finished. The room was ok but had extremely low doors I left with a sore and grazed head. In all I never felt welcome here and didn’t feel the staff cared.

Everyone was kind polite and helpful. Rooms a bit on the small side. Ideal for one night. Lack of hanging space for dresses. Beds very comfortable. Hairdryer provided and a kettle tea and coffee. Room and bathroom although not dirty could definitely do with a deep clean.

Nice pub with decent pub food. Friendly atmosphere. Prices were reasonable for the menu - typical Wetherspoons type. Assistants were all polite and helpful. Food came out fairly quickly. A fair selection of cask beers - nothing unique but a good selection.
