We loved this hotel, we were met at the door, handed over our bags and were taken through for a cocktail. Great start! And it just got better and better. The whole hotel is mezmarizing and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the food in keepers and cloisters were lovely. Lucy was great with our kids which made us much more relaxed, she couldnt have done any more to make our trip special. We can't wait to return.

booked the dinner and spa experience the same day as was in then area and wanted a relaxing day before star gazing. the hotels amazing, staff were very friendly and polite.had dinner before the spa and both the service and food where great. moving to then spa and then experience nose dived. my partner was accosted in the changing room today an unsettled bill before we'd even got dressed. and after I had offered to pay during the day. I did explain this to the service manager who assured us things were put in place to make sure this doesn't happen again

We did 2 nights at Maften over Valentines weekend, hotel was very clean and staff friendly. Golf course is brilliant, spa was busy and small, not many spaces to relax and no where to get a drink. Food was good, breakfast was hard work with staff.

Very poor VFM. Underwhelming experience. Our high expectations for this place, following the widely reported £20m refurb in 2023, were dashed sadly. No room in the customer car park on arrival. Offered a complimentary rum punch that had never had a sniff of the rum bottle. Annex room was small & unremarkable. Room condition was fine except that both bedside lights needed new bulbs, the hairdryer was missing and there were hairs on the shower wall. Eugh. Contacting reception to rectify these issues was not straightforward. Spa facilities were good. Bar service: inattentive but friendly. Dinner: waited almost an hour for starters. Then they brought out the wrong main course. To Mark's credit he immediately removed the wine from our bill by way of an apology and managed to get the correct main course served more quickly than expected. Food was good. Served the wrong red wine. Breakfast: chaotic service. Was brought the wrong order 3 times while other tables around us waited endlessly for theirs. Asked for a flat white coffee and it was made clear by the waitress that this was an awkward request "because we're very busy". Eventually she brought a cappuccino. Hmm. The toast we ordered never appeared. Staff are mostly friendly and well intentioned but seem disorganised and insufficiently well trained. On checkout they didn't bother to ask about our stay or experience. I asked for the GM's name which didn't even provoke the question of why I wanted it. We spent £440 for this 1 night stay including dinner. Won't be back.

Just returned from a one night stay as a birthday treat. Greeted by friendly receptionist and offered welcome drink. Shown to a lovely room on second floor , spotlessly clean as was the rest of hotel. Had dinner at the keepers which was very nice served quickly by atttentive staff. Breakfast was served in the cloisters restaurant which was served hot and was very tasty. Had by very first facial at the spa by Chloe. She put me at ease and I left feeling very relaxed. Enjoyed the 5 star experience and will be back.

The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful so on arrival the place looks impressive. However, the service is the worst I’ve ever experience. Young staff who appear to have had no training whatsoever. We only wanted drinks and a snack and were shown to Cloisters within the hotel as that was the only place we could get a snack. It wasn’t the most comfortable place - a bit like sitting in a lobby. We had to stop a waitress to get any attention and it was a different member of staff who eventually came to ask what we would like. Firstly we asked for menus - the server could only find 2 menus so the 3 of us shared. We asked what the soup was and the server didn’t know so had to go find out (only one soup on the menu ). We settled on food but then had to ask for the drinks menu …… we settled our order, the food and drink served. We couldn’t wait to finish the food so that we could move into a nicer/more comfortable location with our drinks (1831 bar). My niece went to settle the bill and mentioned to us how expensive it was when she made the payment ……. On querying the cost we discovered we were charged for a bottle of Prosecco rather than the glass we had ordered. Also, a service charge of almost £14. The service was deplorable and the incorrect bill added to our dissatisfaction. I asked for the service charge to be removed and my niece presented her card for the bar manager to correct the overpayment. We moved into the 1831 bar which, like the rest of the hotel, is beautiful. My niece checked her bank record only to discover the bar manager hadn’t refunded the overpayment but had charged her account rather than refund the sum due!!!!! I asked for the hotel manager. A very polite manager came to see us and apologised saying he would sort it all out for us, however, he also managed to miscalculate our bill and we had to point out his error before my niece presented her payment card for the readjustment. The manager said he wouldn’t charge for the glass of Prosecco given all the confusion. However, I expressed my view that the whole bill should be cancelled and the total amount refunded. What should have been a relaxing afternoon was anything but. The manager said he didn’t have authority to give a full refund but he sought permission - the whole bill was eventually cancelled. This certainly was not a 5 star experience and we won’t be returning.
