The Weligama Bay resort is out of this world and the photographs on the web don't do justice to the place. Its by far the nicest place on Weligama Bay, because it is right on the beach, you can sit on the patio of the restaurant and watch children play on the beach and hear the calming sound of the Indian Ocean The garden villas are magnificent for families, a hop step and a jump from the pool and beach. The rooms in the main building are also very spacious and very clean and the service is superb. the rooms unlike what you might get in a sterile 5 star hotel have a Sri Lankan ambience and the resort is small. The Restaurant Cutty Sark, has superb staff who will cook you whatever Sri Lankan dish you want. We had five amazing dinners, party of 15 on the verandah overlooking the pool and the ocean. We loved our stay at this hotel, which welcomed us very well. The hotel is very well located, close to restaurants and beaches. We rented motorbikes from a shop on the same street and toured the entire south of the island. The pool is very pleasant, the breakfast is also as it has everything you need to start the day off right. Fruit, bread, pancakes, a chef cooking all types of eggs, natural juices, coffee, cakes, etc. The best thing about the hotel is all the staff. They are very friendly young people, who work very well, who help us with everything, very sweet and very helpful. Whatever you need, they always run to help you with a smile on their faces. I ask everyone to read my review and book this hotel to be kind to these young people. I especially want to thank Chef San Jee who treated us very well. For 4 nights we arrived late at the hotel, and he managed to cook our dinner for 10 people. We loved Chef San Jee's food. The Kothu Rotti cooked by him is divine. Another interesting detail is that there are peacocks and we get used to their presence.

We were lucky to have booked this little hotel for a whole week at the end of our trip. This gave us the chance to enjoy everything. We had a generous room and the pool was long enough to really swim. The kitchen was great! The cook (one of the owners) is native Singhalese and worked in Belgium before, with outstanding results! And don't forget to test the bar, if you are there! The hotel sits right on the beach (sand and rocks). To swim in the Indian Ocean, you should walk a bit, but you might miss peacocks, a mungo, turtles, crabs, fish and the wonderful sound of breaking waves right in front of your room... ;-). Coming to the best part... we were used to very good service on Sri Lanka, but staff and the owners of the villa were really so attentive and friendly as if they knew us for a long time. My wife had her birthday when we were there and we (owners, staff and me) managed for some surprises on that day, including a chorus of all(!) staff. :-) Great place, will return for sure.
