Great 2-day break. The staff are the best, reception, bar and kitchen. It would be hard to find friendlier people than Maryport folks. My room had a great view of the harbor, and when the sun sets it ends the day on a tranquil note. I didn't hear any police sirens or see any ambulances whiz by. There's no pollution, the sea sharpens your appetite and you can bask all day in the sun. There's a spectacular harbor,and Maryport could easily become the next Marbella on the Solway Firth. I met some great bikers on my first day. If oil is discovered off the Cumbrian cost Marport stands to be a boom town. The Golden Lion has old world charm tempered with a modern bar and restaurant. They make great food, too, so, goodbye diet. There's free parking, free WiFi and the owner, Phillip Cueto has the time to listen to your story. Special mention to Joanne, Mike and Adrian

Great little hotel in Maryport. Good location near the harbour. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Restaurant was good. Would stay again

I visited with friends from North Yorkshire who are discerning and uneasily swayed, concerning quality and spend. My local "The Lion" aloft the middle tap, with views over the harbour and seconds from the museum, constantly delivers and exceeds expectations with a homemade menu (the doorstep Steak Pie is top of the menu) which caters for all. What I particularly appreciate is the friendly welcome without the rabble and hum found in neighbouring Cockermouth and Workington. For those who appreciate old fashioned civility and a warm uninterrupted experience, should try out The Lion and leave feeling satisfied and ready for their next visit.

Just had one night stay but stayed before and same standard was upheld this time so all was fine. Spacious single room and good breakfast with nice view over towards Maryport marina.

Only there for one night, people friendly, room was immaculate, bed was a little firm but i am used to a soft mattress topper
Dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.
Will defiantly stay there again
