Ibis Marseille Centre Prefecture

This hotel is in one of the worst areas of Marseille. There are homeless people in doorways and the area is run down and desolate. The hotel staff are cheerful enough but I think that even they know that they're in a dire area. The hotel itself has no bar or restaurant so you have to venture outside if you want any sustenance. Best thing to do - head directly to the old port where there is a huge array of bars and restaurants. Get a taxi back to the hotel (about €15) or risk getting mugged in the street like I did. The one amusing part about our stay was using the underground car park. Having to fit a car that is 1.84m wide into a lift that is 1.9m wide was fun. The car park is on level minus 5 by the way so you're in for a journey a long way down!
Ibis Marseille Timone

I booked this hotel per recommendation by the conference I was attending at the convention center. The room was tiny even for European standards but it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was served early with an attentive staff. The best parts about this hotel were the location - half a block from the metro stop and a large grocery store and ATM across the street. The other outstanding quality was the front desk staff. Always pleasant, very attentive, and helpful. We had dinner ever night in the Vieux-port because it was a quick 4 stops on the metro so it didn’t matter to us that there may not have been decent restaurants near the hotel. For the price, I would stay here again for the pleasantness of the staff and convenience of location.
Ibis Marseille Centre Euroméd

This hotel is basic and the room was small but clean and tidy. The staff were helpful, polite and spoke good English. It is located in the Business district of Marseille where all of the buildings look exactly the same, from office blocks to hotels to car parks. The hotel had a bar/dining/terrace which was on the walk way. It was close to a boutique shopping centre with a food court which we walked through but didnt use. The number of vagrants and beggars in the area made us feel uncomfortable. It is impossible to stop in your car outside so prebooking car parking is a necessity, but it did work well. Although the Pope did not stay at this hotel he did cause us some travelling difficulties around the town and he caused the Cathedral to be closed for security. (we wished they had put the closed sign at the bottom of the 174 steps not at the entrance to the Cathedral).

First, the hotel is just outside the station- less than 2 minutes walk. second, the entry into the hotel is as seen in the pix. little walk through and people sitting and enjoying the silence. lobby is friendly and welcoming. there is restaurant inside with lively TV/music. receptionists are welcoming and checkin was fast. nice corridors on the 2nd floor and the room for three was spacious. a sofa cum bed was comfortable. window overlooking the parking lot. gives privacy. from the hotel one can take a metro ticket 5.20 euros for 24 hours and go anywhere. the breakfast is part in restaurant and outdoors - the latter is heavenly. little fruit and vegetable plants. very good fair- detox water, croissants, fresh fruit, yogurt, tea, coffee, fresh orange juice you can make for self,...good for vegetarians too. would recommend to everyone. only positives for this hotel and it is well priced. in night one can jsut sit in open and enjoy the silence. Go for it.
