The hotel is located in an outstandingly great location with a view of the collonade (back) and the singing fountain. We had booked a superior room with half board. The room was very spacious and bright. The furnishings are great. It was also pleasant that the toilet and bathroom are separate. The superior room was advertised as "soundproof". We can confirm that and we were very satisfied with it. The proximity to the Singing Fountain also has its pitfalls. If the window is open you will be woken up with music at 7:00 a.m. and the music will play for the last time at 11:00 p.m. But that wasn't a problem for us. Unfortunately, not everything was great. In this room type we had the choice between 2 single beds and a double bed. We had decided on 2 single beds and discovered on site that there was only a double bed. Clearly a flaw if ************ offers it that way. Then we discovered that the minibar fridge wasn't working and was lifeless. When we complained about this immediately after arrival, we were assured that it would be fixed the next day. But nothing happened until the day we left. Communication with the staff at reception was consistently difficult. If you don't speak German, that's OK, but you should at least speak enough English to understand a complaint. In our case I had to describe at length what a refrigerator is. This was also the case with another question from other staff. We didn't find the breakfast particularly special, but it was OK. Sometimes the replenishment was a little slow or not at all. What was very unpleasant was that there were far too few places for this size of hotel. This means that you either had to be an early riser or, if you came during peak time, you had to wait in line until a table became available. This is probably also the reason why dinner is served in another hotel (Hotel Sun, about a 6-minute walk away). If you see the same staff who were on duty at breakfast also at dinner and then, as in our case at 5 p.m., at room service, then you know where savings are being made. Basically, there are far too few staff who of course can't keep up and who also appear to be poorly trained. At dinner we had both extremes: terrible on the first day and very good in terms of selection and taste the next day. Inexplicable. Was the cook sick? The shower is really bad. Setting a constant temperature is impossible. Depending on when other hotel guests shower or flush the toilet, the water temperature fluctuates from cold to scalding hot. This is dangerous and needs to be changed urgently! So that this doesn't seem like a bad-tempered slur, I would like to say that we had a great time in Marienbad and we might even stay at the Belvedere again (without half board). We now know what we have to prepare for.
