If you want to sleep in El Yaque, Casa Maya is the best choice. Perfect place right by the ocean. We were in a room upstairs. Beautiful view. The caretakers of the guesthouse are a Wonderful Family. It's unfortunate that the images of the accommodation did not reflect the actual conditions; the accommodation is URGENTLY not recommended. Selected examples: - The check-in was highly complicated, lasting over an hour. Record: the longest check-in. I was also required to read a two-page "house rule", all highly questionable and unusual. - In the sparsely furnished apartment booked for two, there was only one glass. There was no bottle opener, so I had to buy one. - When I later requested a second glass, it initially wasn't possible. - Upon ordering two dinners, I received only one set of cutlery. When I inquired about this, I was told I still had one from the previous day. I explained that it had already been used. Response: I should contact the owner via Whatsapp, who is not on-site but in Costa Rica, to get a second glass or cutlery. Seriously?! - The next morning, the son of the family woke me up at 7:30 am with loud banging on the door, claiming they needed a table from my balcony in another apartment. Seriously?! - The following day, I was awakened at 6:30 am by loud music and construction on the neighboring property. - I approached Aida (host) about these issues, and she again suggested I speak to Manuel, the owner, on Whatsapp. So I messaged Manuel again, asking to be allowed to sleep in the mornings. Manuel replied that I had violated two "house rules," such as taking the wrong towel to the beach, allegedly breaking the house rules. Seriously?! - I asked if two of my T-shirts could be washed, and I was told I had to pay 10 USD (the average income in Venezuela is less than 250 USD), which I declined with gratitude. - There is NO hot water; even cold water was often unavailable, and electricity and internet regularly went out. - A drink I had the day before, a coffee (3 USD), suddenly had to be paid in cash. I explained that my passport and credit card were on file, and it would be more convenient for everyone to settle the total at my check-out. The response was that the host, Aida, receives money for my consumption, and Manuel receives money for my accommodation. What does my question have to do with my proposal and the internal accounting? Seriously?! - My room was booked for two people. The next day, a friend joined me. He was denied entry because, according to the host's strict demand, his passport could only be presented in electronic form. The host himself behaved extremely unfriendly, dismissive, and discriminatory. I immediately decided to book a new accommodation (a hotel right across) to avoid further "irritations". - I immediately canceled my planned extension directly on the same evening. In response, I received a disrespectful Whatsapp message from Manuel, the owner, asking me to leave the next day. Seriously?! I had already canceled the extension of the stay myself. Technically, a refund for the last night's stay would be due, but I had no interest in further pointless and meaningless disputes. My new apartment, 100 meters a
