The general manager at this iconic hotel needs to get a grip! We are astounded at the reviews in the media, clearly these journalists had not experienced this hotel recently! In reception, catering and housekeeping are sadly lacking. What should have been a relaxing luxurious break was a nightmare from the start. The check in said I had not paid, in fact it was booked and paid for months in advance! Told a room upgrade, but it was what I had reserved! On arrival The suite had a strong smell of drains / sewage, we had reserved a double bed, but the room set up as a twin! After 2 hours following check in offered an alternative lower grade dark room. We decided to stay put. The kettle cable did not reach the socket so had to move the furniture to plug it in. Does no one road test rooms? Our view, a brick wall covered in an attractive plant, but adjoining room gate would not close, so no privacy for the2 rooms. We had to stay on our terrace as the noise of screaming children was everywhere, pools, loungers, restaurant, beach club. The adult only pool had no loungers in the sun, children should be allocated this space! A dead leaf remained in our bathroom for all of our stay, the furniture frayed and worn. Breakfast everyday was cold and service a shambles. Even if freshly cooked, bacon, eggs, etc cold! Stale croissants, had to allow over 2 hours for breakfast because of poor service. Birds everywhere, on the tables, on the ground, no attempt to move them. Supper not much better! Made to eat outside and it was cold! The fillet steak was certainly not a fillet and at E72 overpriced. We had to tolerate a screaming children for over an hour one night in the Grill, the staff unable to deal with the situation. The bar, overcrowded with outsiders, no room to sit down for residents, service non existent! All our complaints were mentioned to a customer relations person, but it made no difference. The inflated prices, the poor service and poor quality of the food make this a place to avoid! The general manager needs to visit other 5 star de luxe hotels and make improvements in all departments. We were told we didn’t need to pay for our 2 suppers or E10 for a small jug of milk for coffee in our room, but it did not make our stay any better!
