Hampton Inn Marathon - Florida Keys

Be ware they overcharged me and we’re not friendly about reimbursing me.

Pros: easy check in, ample parking, good selections for breakfast, clean pool with plenty of comfortable, shady seating available. Room was clean but definitely could use an update or at least touch-ups on scuffs around baseboards and on the walls. Cons: air conditioning switched to "heat" automatically if thermostat was set above 65 degrees, making for a very cold room especially since the a/c blows directly on whoever is sleeping next to the window. Shower doors would not stay closed and kept sliding open during showers, getting the floor all wet. Had to wedge a cardboard coffee sleeve in the top of the door to keep it from opening. Housekeeping only offered every other day so trash does accumulate in the small trash cans in the rooms, and if you need fresh linens you have to go down to the front desk to get them which isn't very convenient.

My husband and I have been coming here for the past 3 or 4 years, but wow is it going downhill lately. This last visit, we decided to bring our 2 cats with us. We checked in through the app and was able to get to into our room with the mobile key option. We chose room 131. Once we got everything inside(a ton when traveling with animals) we realized how hot and muggy the room was. You can only put the a/c down to 64, but at 66, the room was stifling and wet. at 68, the heat turned on. We did not want to move everything to another room(if there was one available, this was a holiday week), so we went out and bought a small dehumidifier and kept the room at 64 the entire time. 64 about froze us out of the room, but anything higher was too hot. Our bathroom was pretty dirty, so I bought cleaning supplies and cleaned it myself. Dirt in the corners, mildew(that easily scraped off) and long dark hair in the shower. We saw housekeeping every day, but they must only be allowed a few minutes on each room, because it would have been easy to clean everything that was wrong with our room, if they had a little more time. The pillows were much better this time, but the mattresses are super super firm, almost painfully firm. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, so I cannot comment on the breakfast. We always enjoy the pool area, but the prices are becoming outrageous, and the bar is only open from 4pm-10pm, so you cannot purchase lunch at the pool. I will say every time we called or went to the front desk, the agents were all very, very friendly and did what they could to resolve any issues. I really hope management does something about the decline. I'm a travel agent and always send my budget-minded clients here, but I will have to be honest about this most recent stay.

Average to poor quality of the hotel structure, cleanliness and upkeep. Free breakfast is moderately okay. Breakfast area did not have Air Conditioning working - too hot and muggy. Happy Hour beer drink costs are much higher than neighboring happy hour bars. Not worth the cost to stay here. I would not recommend to stay at this place. In future, I will avoid Hampton Inn at all costs.
