Maple Creek Motor Inn

Older but quiet and clean motor inn that offers good value, with a restaurant and bar on site.  On the outskirts but downtown is minutes away. I found the staff very helpful .

I have three criteria when staying at a traditional Ma and Pa motel or an international 5-Star resort: 1. Am I safe on the property, 2. Am I comfortable on the property, and 3. Would a reasonable person conclude I got what I paid for – value. The Maple Creek Motor Inn, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan met my criteria. 1. Am I safe on the property? The Maple Creek Inn is about a half mile north of Maple Creek on the east side of the highway. The Inn sits largely by itself. Maple Creek is a small rural farm town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Not much goes on in Maple Creek after 6 p.m. It is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. The Inn has a massive unpaved parking area if you arrive in an SUV pulling a trailer or driving a truck. The parking area has electrical outlets for engine block heaters in winter. All customers must enter the Inn through the lobby’s front door. The rooms have interior doors with key locks. The locks were in good condition. The room has a chain to secure the door from the inside. The Inn has a small pub and tavern connected to it. It closes before midnight. The pub’s clientele was quiet and relaxed. I felt safe here. 2. Am I comfortable on the property? Check-in was effortless. The attendant welcomed me and gave me information about the Inn and its amenities. The front desk has snacks for sale. For its age the property was well-kept, clean, without any noticeable stains or cleaning smells. My room was again well-kept with a comfortable bed and bath. However, the room did not have a coffee maker. The Inn has a converted room down the hall with coffee maker, hot water dispenser for tea, with cold cereal and fruit. A modest continental breakfast setup. The room is small but well-kept and inviting. The Inn does have a WiFi which I connected to. The WiFi worked fine. The Inn is far from the main railroad line which borders the town. I did not hear the trains. A modest pub / tavern is attached to the Inn, which I did not go into. A restaurant also is attached to the Inn, but I wasn’t sure if it was open for business. 3. Would a reasonable person conclude that I got what I paid for? Value. Yes, I conclude what I paid for was reasonable for what I got. An affordable, comfortable, clean lodging for two nights. But the Inn charges a damage deposit of $100 Canadian Dollars. The attendant said the Inn would refund the deposit in “two or three business days.” She said I could check with my bank to see when the deposit is refunded. I was uncomfortable with this and do not support any “damage deposit” refunded later. Had I known about this “damage deposit” issue, I probably would have sought lodging elsewhere. All-in-all, except for the damage deposit thing, the Maple Creek Motor Inn is a good place for the budget-minded traveler.

Stopped in at Maple Creek while cycling through the area, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The town is not only scenic and bike-friendly, but the people truly made it special. A big thank-you to the friendly and welcoming staff-your kindness and helpfulness meant a lot after a long ride. Whether you're touring or just passing through, Maple Creek is a gem for cyclists!
