Aburaya

The old-fashioned building used on the website is the building that houses the restaurant and hot springs. We stayed in an old building on the river side, and there was a hot spring in the basement, but this was a private bath that cost extra. As this is a historic inn, we had high hopes for the food and rooms, but the food was nothing special and the rooms were old, which was disappointing. However, the hot springs were good, and we especially recommend the private hot spring in the basement of the building where the rooms were.

The hospitality of the proprietress and the service of the staff was wonderful. The food was not the typical "full volume" cuisine, but each dish was carefully prepared, and the taste of the "dashi" in particular was very delicious. The chawanmushi was perhaps the best I have ever eaten. Thank you very much.
