The good bits- the room was massive and so was the bed and it was comfortable. The night porter was very helpful when I asked for more water and tea but I had to ask because it wasn’t replenished in my room. Breakfast was ok - menu is not correct on the website - important if you have dietary requirements. Areas to improve- the building is lovely and clearly was a four star hotel in its day but is definitely not now. It’s looking tired and uncared for. Rooms are not at the level I would expect. Clean ish if you look past the cobwebs, dust in areas, hair in the bathroom and stain on the pillow. Air-con doesn’t work but they did put a fan in the room although a hot day on the second floor it meant for a hot night. Fire alarm went off around midnight. Only one member of staff that I really felt for but didn’t appear to know what to do. He didn’t know how to turn the alarm off, a guest had to help him. Spa was ok but not clean. Cobwebs, drinks not cleared up around the outside of the pool. The final nail in my not brilliant experience was to go back to my room after breakfast at 10am ready to relax for an hour before check out at 11am and find the housekeeper in there having just cleaned the room and changed the bed ready for the next guest having just moved my belongings out of the way. Other guests agreed it’s got a Faulty Towers feel to the place! Such a shame as it’s a good location and I’d hoped I would be a regular visitor but I’ll be trying somewhere else next time.

When we arrived as a hotel guest we were told the kitchens were shutting down so we wouldn’t be able to get dinner after 7 and we’d only just arrived. The receptionist then suggested we order Uber Eats to the hotel. No restaurant recommendations and went back to staring at their mobile. We were given keys and headed to our room. On arrival it had used coffee sachets and drink stuff over surfaces clearly not cleaned and the air conditioning wasn’t working. It was 32c and one of the reasons we’d checked in for air con and a swimming pool. We were told use fans and it wasn’t going to be fixed. We went to the pool which was so dirty and messy full of mismatched, some very dirty sun beds. Lots were very hard of lumpy and had no cushions we rummaged around inside and found various items and cobbled together a comfy area. The pool itself was ok, very warm water, it surprised everyone who went in. The door glass dividing the indoor and outdoor pool area were so dirty and covered in limescale it was crusty white as with the broken and uneven pool slabs around the edge. I saw a few people stub toes. The patio had weeds/ thistles growing out of it that were 20cm tall, I started weeding myself. Now we go to the man who worked in reception of the pool. He spent most of his time in his gym wear which was clearly the reason he worked there to use it for free. He fell asleep outside and guests started just helping themselves to canned drinks from the bar as nothing to drink. Even the one small water jug was empty and it was so hot. When asked if we could get lunch we were told the kitchen wasn’t open and you had to go to the petrol station down the road . People had to go out of the hotel to get food and drink and came back with plastic bags. The man also said on arrival the following morning to the pool area, that hotel guests weren’t allowed to use the sun beds ….. I kid you not. He smiled manically but didn’t doing anything to help he was a very odd chap. Apparently smiling while being unhelpful made everything ok in his eyes….. truly bizarre behaviour. When we went outside there was not one person around the pool even though we weren’t allowed to use the sun beds. We did . It had been left exactly as everyone had left the night before and nothing had been tidied or cleaned. Old dips flops stayed on the floor the entire stay never moved, broken table , cushions moved around by guests to assemble a bed . Just a tip. The inside of the pool edge needed a wipe down too. They did poor chemicals in at 8pm we noticed though! Now for the breakfast. I enjoyed the food ( the kitchen was open and serving …hurrah ) The room itself was very dirty, food up the wall next to the table where we sat and dead flies in the empty glass cabinets next to it. The glass on the cabinets had once tried to be cleaned with what must have been dirty water as it left a very dirty but you could see the cloth swirls. Generally possible the worse hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Do not wast

This hotel is beyond tired and outdated, its dirty. Its not vacuumed. There are bits of paper or who knows what all over the carpet. There is dirt build up on everything from over the years. Wires are hanging off the radiator in the hallway. The carpet is one of the worst stained hotel carpets I've ever seen. The carpet is wrinkled so a tripping hazard. I came back from the office one day to see black smudges all over the hand towel I had left out. It took two requests over two days to remove a pair of underwear from behind the toilet, showing they clearly don't clean well in between guests. My colleague didn't have a working lock on the door, which were simple bedroom doorknob locks that could easily be picked. No deadbolt, and the chain was nailed into the molding trim around the door. I could have yanked it out with a bare hand. There were signs on the doors that the doors lock automatically from the outside and they do not lock from the outside automatically, I tested before walking away from my room. I could hear the staff complaining multiple times about reviews while walking around the hotel. The dining area, the sugar bowls didn't all have lids. The tables were dirty and didn't look like they were cleaned regularly between guests. The one evening we dined for dinner the food was okay. Breakfast was expensive for what it was. I asked my company to have this hotel removed from our local office guide for visiting employees.

The hotel has no air conditioning, it is broken. You don’t get told this when you check in. When I asked about in the morning was told” yes it’s been playing up” when I pointed out that you don’t inform people of this before they come was again told” well it doesn’t say we have it on the website”. Was not even offered a fan on this very hot day. The room was unbelievable hot and was unable to sleep. Decided to have a cold shower, with the pathetic amount of water coming out of the shower, not even a decent spray. On the plus side the grounds are lovely and I’m sure the spa is good but no time to try it as I was staying for a wedding nearby and only for the one night. Would I return, no the room is not worth the money they charge.

A wonderful welcome from the start ! Everyone we met were very polite and lovely. Lots of parking places - lovely gardens to have a morning coffee in the sun. Breakfast was fantastic along with the service. Will definitely come back with our swimmers to try the outdoor pool…

This hotel is outstanding! Please don't listen to the negative reviews, which are absolute nonsense! We have been here twice in a matter of months and the staff are exceptional and the facilities are top notch - the outdoor pool is heated to a beautifully hot temperature and it is like being on holiday out there! The gardens and peaceful serenity are second to none! And...the breakfast! Just WOW! The best hotel breakfast ever! All cooked to order and everything is perfection in the ingredients! We have been in room 100 both times and it is a lovely room, which totally met all our requirements. Please, please don't listen to the reviews - yes, it is an older hotel that is a careworn in places, yet everything is clean and still very much fit for purpose. This is a wonderful hotel in every respect! We cannot wait to come back again and again!
