This nice hotel, in lovely gardens with a small spa, is let down by the shabby rooms and common areas. The good stuff: SPA - nice small spa with outside jacuzzi and a sauna. Loungerson lawn for sunnier days. we had two great treatments. The spa is clean and calm and staff are friendly. Tea and coffee free in spa lounge, along with fruit and water. Fluffy spa towels and robes. Hairdryers and straighteners available. Code lockers easy to use. DINNING - really good food in the restaurant which overlooks the grounds. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. The not so good: ROOMS - shabby with no chic. Torn and stained carpets. Shower coming off wall. Stained blanket on bed end. No fridge. Furniture old and tired. And Deluxe room quite small. SPA- spa lounge only has tables and small chairs, so there is nowhere indoors to really relax or lounge. One half of the lounge could have had a few comfy sofas or lounger chairs. No post treatment relaxation room. Ladies changing room very cosy and no gents changing room, just small single rooms with lockers outside in corridor. The spa is in the cellar, so I appreciate room has limited the design. And no dryer for swimwear, no wet suit bags. No hooks in shower area for robes or towels. So the little extras missing. RECEPTION Felt strange. Just a desk facing the wall and not manned full time. We could see all the other guests details on the computer that faces into the room. Plenty of space to set up in the more traditional format of staff behind a desk with a couple of chairs in front for guests. It felt awkward standing around waiting for someone to appear and then she had her back to us the whole time as we stood there. And think us being able to see guest details is not good. Note: I complained about our room and we were upgraded to a nicer room with a clean bed, but this also had torn and stained carpet throughout and rose petals visible under bed edges and sofas. Clearly used as the honeymoon room. Towel rail didn’t work and my husband 5ft11 did not fit under the shower. So until the rooms and common areas are upgraded I would not stay again. It did not feel 4 star.
