Our experience at Medhufushi Island Resort was deeply disappointing and frustrating from the very start. The reception staff were absolutely terrible—unhelpful, puppets, and completely unfit for their roles! Throughout our stay, I had to visit the reception multiple times to sort out issues, which should never happen on a relaxing holiday… We couldn’t sleep, because our skin was on fire, so to speak. We initially thought the itching was from mosquitoes, but when we went to the reception, they suspected it was from bedbugs. We had to visit a doctor at night because we just couldn’t bear the itching. The doctor confirmed that the itching was from insect bites (most likely BED BUGS) and we were having an allergic reaction. The itching was unbearable, and this issue was never handled properly by the resort. We had to change rooms due to this, but when we noticed that, our original old room was already occupied by new guests, which is unacceptable. To make matters worse, we discovered a rat living in our villa roof, scratching all night long. At first, we were told it was just birds, but we eventually found out the truth. The rats even chewed through the air-conditioning cables in the villa next door, leaving our neighbors without AC. This level of hygiene and maintenance is absolutely unacceptable for the price we paid. We also saw cockroaches in the main dining room—disgusting. No comment on that, it speaks for itself. The resort itself was not the cleanest, and it was very outdated. It felt like it had lost its shine, and the lack of cleanliness and upkeep made it even more disappointing for the money we spent. Snorkeling, which was a major reason we chose this destination (Maldives), was another massive letdown. You can’t snorkel or swim around the resort due to sea grass everywhere. While the staff works hard to clean it daily, it doesn’t change the fact that there’s no proper swimming area. If you want to snorkel, you must join the daily boat trip at 2 PM, but even that was a disaster. The boat was often full—not with snorkelers, but with people taking pictures who were rude and even threw our belongings on the floor. Service at the pool bar was equally disappointing. Despite having staff available, we were constantly ignored. We had to shout to get someone’s attention, which is unacceptable for a resort this expensive! Drinks were inconsistent—sometimes overly sweet to the point of being undrinkable, other times fine. It was completely unpredictable. Entertainment was another disappointment. The DJ at Vilu Bar only played Indian songs, making it impossible to enjoy or dance to more universally popular tracks. Even movie nights exclusively featured Indian films. It felt like the resort catered only to a specific audience, leaving others out entirely. Me and my boyfriend came here hoping to have a calm, relaxing holiday and possibly even get engaged. Unfortunately, this was far from the experience we were looking for. We still have signs
