Stayed on 20 June 2025 I chose this place because I was looking for somewhere different to the typical hotels and BnBs during my Europe trip. I was more mobile with a rented car. The photos in the booking website did not do it justice as it gave a “******* castle” vibe but in reality is lovely and bright. In addition, the relatively low price and limited time to book. I am puzzled that it's ratings did not exceed 4 stars as it exceeded my expectations. The staff were warm, kind, and prompt. Breakfast was excellent, with the amazing view from the room, overlooking a meadow with grazing sheep. An added bonus: it’s located along the Grindstone Path, making it a perfect and convenient spot for hiking enthusiasts.

It is a very historical castle. The rooms at the back should have been built in the later period. The environment in front of the hotel is very good, with a large grassland, sheep, and a small garden where you can see the stars at night. The faucet of the wash basin is separated from hot and cold. It is either cold or scalding. The water in the bathroom is too small and the crib rattles when you turn around. There were activities that night or something, and there was a very noisy sound from guests at 1am. . To my surprise, I was given a bottle of red wine when I checked into the room. In addition, the mountain trails followed by the navigation are quite thrilling.

This hotel does offer great value for money, but it is very rough around the edges. If you get one of the sparkling getaway deals, it’s great value, but the rooms are shocking in places. The taps coming away from the bath, shower scalding hot, windows that don’t open, rips in fabric and quite grime in areas. The thing about this place that redeems itself is some of the staff. They’re are fantastic and friendly and actually make you see past the buildings short comings, which is a shame as the building itself is stunning and deserves a bit of money and care spending on it. I’ve stayed here a couple of times and the food was great first time, second time it was more miss than hit, but again for the price, I’d say acceptable. However the older lady at breakfast is very rude and needs customer service training. Barking at paying guests what do you want to eat before we’ve even sat down and shouting what’s you’re room number 3 times across a crowded breakfast room, when we are at the other side of the room as there was no one there to great us, saying have you paid for breakfast is quite frankly embarrassing! Then telling us to sit over in the conservatory on garden furniture with paper underneath as it wobbles as this is where breakfast is served. It had already been eaten at and had stains on the linen and was a boiling hot morning so we didn’t want to sit in a glass box. We asked to sit over in the main restaurant as we had in previous visit, she said no, so we ate at a dirty table!! Would I stay again, from first visit..yes, from second visit…no!

Stayed on a Saturday evening at the sake time as a wedding. Stunning surroundings, decent parking, absolutely delicious evening meal. No issues with noise in the evening (wedding party had a license til 1am), only awoken in the morning with doors that were quite noisy. Breakfast- a bit too overcooked

Have seen mixed reviews I wasn't sure what to expect cuisine wise. Meat balls to start with, snelled nuce, looked appealing and tasted locely. Beef bourguignon for my main. The meat was so tender it latterly fell apart. Honestly, neither could have cooked better.

We were a little concerned having seen some of the more negative reviews but really enjoyed our stay. I am not sure why people expect the height of luxury at the rates offered by the hotel but we found it great value for money. The staff are very professional, friendly and helpful and the main areas of the hotel like the dining room and bar look great. Our room was comfortable, the view could have been more interesting but we can't all have great views, especially as we were in one of the cheaper rooms. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment but overall a very positive experience.

After seeing their post on the local Facebook page advertising morning coffee to non residents, me and 5 other elderly ladies decided to give it a try. We were met in reception by a man who informed us that he'd have to go and check in the kitchen to see if they had any milk. When he came back, carrying a carton of milk, he said he had no chef and no cakes. His attitude was pretty dismissive and he didn't seem to be particularly bothered whether we stayed or not. So we left and took our money elsewhere. Pity really because we'd wanted to support a local business.
