The Yew Tree at Longhope

I ordered fish and chips when the waitress returned with the sauce I asked for. I asked ‘should the fish be this burnt, it’s been incinerated” She replied ‘ I don’t know ‘ Thinking she would have brought my comment to the relevant member of staff I waited for somebody to come to talk to me. Nobody came. When she cleared my barely touch Meal away I asked why she hadn’t informed a member of staff about my complaint, she replied she would now, technically pointless The plate should’ve never have gone out the kitchen I arrived at 6:45 pm. The bar was already full of very drunken men swearing.

Really great find. All of the staff (from the bar staff to waiters/ waitresses and owners) were absolutely lovely - very friendly, polite and attentive. We stayed in a family room (room 8) which was good - really comfy beds and great to have actual beds for the kids, rather than the usual sofa/ pull out beds. Food was homemade and really delicious with fantastic portion sizes. They also had my favourite on tap (Korev). Where other hotels and restaurants are cutting corners to save money, the Yew Tree add the finishing touches and hire lovely staff which made our visit memorable. Thank you - we will hopefully be back and have time to sample the Sunday roast next time :)

What a fantastic place to visit. Hardworking happy staff, making your stay memorable. Food is outstanding quality, well presented and expertly cooked. We stayed in a courtyard room, very clean, tidy and comfortable. Breakfast is perfect for getting ready for the day. The motto of this place is 'arrive as guests, leave as family'. Definitely will visit again.

On arrival no heating in our room. Minus 3 outside. We had been booked for over a month so they knew we were coming. Room very cold. Luckily I packed a hot water bottle. Courtyard had no lighting, I'm disabled, unsteady on my feet, so I regard this as dangerous. Bar was lovely and warm. Log burner. Staff were friendly and helpful, but needs a lot more planning for visitors. Not worth £90 a night. Doesn't include breakfast. Don't think I would go back.

We had high expectations. My husband had researched for some time (as he does) and asked locals on Facebook groups for the best place for a Sunday roast dinner whilst we were on holiday in the Forest Of Dean. The Yew Tree was the pub chosen. We drove 30 minutes from our holiday cottage. On arrival the juke box had heavy metal music on with heavy base... not the best ambiance for a country pub roast dinner. I did ask abd they changed it. Staff weren't the most welcoming. They were busy though. Drinks wise, I asked for coke. The response was is Pepsi OK? I said yes but witnessed my drink being poured out of a 2L plastic bottle. Disappointing. They'd run out of ice. My drink was room temp and not that fizzy. Food wise there wasn't a starter option. We ordered roast dinners, i had one meat (Pork) and the hubby had two meats (pork & chicken). There wasn't any mash potato which is what I love most on my roast. Delicious roast potatoes, which we'd ordered extra of. Mixed medly of veg. Tasty gravy albeit a tad watery for our liking. Plenty of meat. The pigs in blankets were served in a dish, half sausages & bacon with maple syrup. Delicious. The desserts looked divine but we were too full.

Loved this ! Came down on our boat staff friendly funny easy going and couldn’t do enough to help! Really easy going and we felt just at home! ( Note to other pubs! THIS IS HOW U DO IT ) great time 100% planning our next trip and will stop here 😃😃😃😃😃😃
