We’ve read many or the previous Trip Advisor reviews and can see fair points in all of them, however our experience was excellent. Yes, the hotel is old and slightly tired but it’s very charming. It’s expensive but where else are you going to stay in that area? It could do with a refurbishment but it has character and we certainly wouldn’t want it to close down and be lost forever, nor bought over by a big chain and be stripped of its unique qualities. Our room was clean, however a few points are deducted for omitting to service our bathroom properly. We stayed for three enjoyable nights. Service was patchy on the first night but improved greatly. The season was just getting underway and we suspect some newer staff members were still finding their feet. The staff were generally delightful. Food was mostly excellent. Breakfasts were highly enjoyable with a great view from the dining room. Drink was reasonably priced by hotel standards. The vibe in our opinion is a mixture of Agatha Christie meets Fawlty Towers and is all the better for it. Quirky, quaint and curious, in a stunning setting. If you’re expecting perfection then go elsewhere but if you appreciate people trying hard to give you a memorable experience in a wonderful part of the world then you’ll be just fine. Thanks to Frances and staff for a pleasant, happy and quite special experience.

Sorry to say that this hotel survives because there is no competition - The only other hotel option in the are air currently is closed for refurbishment. Our room was very small and badly organised, the taps didn't work properly and the mattress was old and saggy. Breakfast was OK, with options and the restaurant in the evening good. The waiters and waitresses who seemed to always be on duty (wondered how much time they were allowed off) were always friendly and helpful. The reception areas all need re decorating, and the staircase up to the bedrooms was threadbare in places.

We recently spent a lovely few days at The Crinan Hotel. We paid a wee bit extra for a balcony room which is well worth it if the weather behaves. The views from up high are fabulous. Good choices of food for dinner. Breakfast was excellent. Nice walks along the canal tow path or just hang around the locks and watch the World go by. The access roads in and out are a wee bit tight but the journey is worth it.

Accessible to a point. No designated accessible parking. 1 step up to reception. There is a small lift . The ladies public loo is on the first floor at the top of the stairs. The double rooms have baths and no shower and will not be useable by many with mobility issues. However, room 7 is a single room with a walk in shower and they put us in a room down the hall and gave us the keys to both rooms. Amazing and really grateful for that. The seafood in the restaurant was excellent. The staff were great. Overall we loved it for one night.

Hotel is in a beautiful, unspoilt location offering stunning views over the loch. This hotel is full of character! Staff were extremely helpful. Dinner was delicious, as was the breakfast. The outdoor area of the bar was a great place to relax and take in the beauty of this very special place.

What an extraordinary experience! Great welcome, enormous room looking out over the sea,big bathroom with bath (hurrah!). We met some brilliant people in the very cosy bar restaurant and ate superb fish.. The oysters , langoustines and halibut were perfect plus the very best crème brûlée !!! The staff were all young and enthusiastic and we loved every minute,

We absolutely loved our stay at The Crinan Hotel. The staff were top class, seeing how much the owner cares about being there just adds the extra finesse. The hotel has so much character which should be appreciated rather than seeking modern hotel upgrade as it’s what sets it apart. The views from rooms including bathroom was stunning. Little bar with outside terrace and walk to the secret garden was perfect. Lovely walk along the canal and you can also complete a one hour trail walk through the “rainforest” which is worth doing. Seafood for dinner was fabulous as was the breakfast choice and quality. We can’t wait to return!

The hotel is in a wonderful location, with views over to Jura and sunsets to die for. The rooms are little dated and need some investment, but the staff and food compensate for this, especially Neave who looked after me very well.
