Went out for an evening meal with a friend. The waitresses were lovely and went an extra mile to give us knowledge about drinks and food. However, the overall environment and atmosphere of the place let down the beautiful restaurant. Unfortunately, there was constant shouting from which sounded like the kitchen. The table was dirty and both napkins were stained. Wouldn’t recommend having food here.

This hotel looks very grand on the pictures and from the outside when you pull up into the car park. The lobby is beautiful and well maintained but thats where the grandeur and cleanliness stops. Our room was very basic at £145 bb per night expensive for what it is, basic! The bed linen was stained and ripped in areas, the tea tray was dirty and the cups where used, there where water/damp stains all over the room, on the wallpaper, soft furnishing and curtains, there where dead flys and spiders on the windowsills and the windows were full of cobwebs and dirt. There was mascara and makeup stains on the curtains and chair. There was a lot of dust in the room. The bathroom was dirty and had black mould and pink soap scum on the tiles. The room (no9) had a constant humming noise which was very loud and was there all night long. I asked for a fan as there was no air-con and being summer the room was very warm, the fan arrived and looked like it had been stored in a cow shed for the last decade, dirty and rusty but it worked so I didnt complain. The went to reception to request a room change due to these issues and this was declined on the basis the hotel was fully booked. We didnt use the spa facilities as we had made other plans. The breakfast in the morning was good and in a lovely breakfast room, all the staff were friendly and helpful, Housekeeping must be poorly sighted because I would expect them to report any of these issues to management for attention because when I checked out and explained how awful the hotel room was and how poor our nights sleep was due to the noise the receptionist seemed genuinely surprised but sympathetic, There was no offer for part reimbursement for the poor cleanliness and poor quality sleep, no monies back was expected however given I showed the photos demonstrating how poor the room state was I would have expected my details to have been taken and to have been contacted by someone more senior who could provide an apology or explanation. I would avoid this place if you're looking for a luxury break. See pictures.

I should probably have looked at the reviews before I booked! The good points The room was fabulous, the double bath was superb, the food was excellent and the setting is perfect. The bad points Some areas need a good clean, particularly the glass tables in the Clocktower! I have seen better serviettes wrapped around an ice-cream cone Had to ask twice for something to be looked at in our room, the nature of the problem, I should only have had to ask once Sign on reception says check out at the Spa, absolutely no instructions about checking in, which flummoxed the French guests behind us No information booklet in the room about the hotel, facilities etc. No tourist spots/things to do information in the room or on main reception I could go on I think it's work in progress with new owners, but, there needs to be more attention to detail. Credit to the lady on reception, she was very helpful

This place could be amazing .... but it's really not. The most upsetting thing was the lack of cleanliness. The library carpet was filthy, with dead flies all round the edges. The ash trays on the tables immediately outside the front door were all full of cigarette butts. The rug by the reception desk needed hoovering and the floor in the beautiful foyer with the glorious staircase was also dirty. The bedroom fared better but the bathroom floor had a few dubious marks on the floor in front of the toilet and the mirror was covered in fingerprints. The net curtain was black with dirt at the bottom, and the glasses provided were also not clean. I can cope with a hotel that is a bit tired round the edges, but there is no excuse for this. On the plus side, the pool is lovely and at the perfect temperature for swimming, though you won't be surprised to learn that there were dirty footprints at the end of all the loungers round the pool. I didn't risk using the changing rooms. Breakfast was excellent. No complaints there, except the only coffee was filter coffee. A cappuccino machine would be a good investment. All that said, the ladies on both the hotel and spa receptions were delightful, charming and as helpful as they could be, as were the breakfast staff, but I'm afraid we won't be back until we start reading reviews about how immaculately clean this place is!

We were placed in an unhygienic room, not fit to stay in. (Room 19). No managers were contactable to assist. The junior staff available agreed it was unacceptable but couldn't put us in another room, so we were forced to leave. NO REFUND has yet been offered or paid. Our anniversary weekend was ruined.

The hotel could be superb but is very badly run . We had a lovely 4 poster bed suite . We booked in first floor ( steep staircase ) to take advantage of the ( non existent) Snowdonia view described on the website. Next day room was not serviced, subsequent days it was often to a very poor standard . No info at all in rooms or reception so we had no idea who to phone although there was a bedside phone . There was no one on reception, just a note saying go to spa reception. Reception unmanned most of the day Breakfast was well cooked but much of the buffet ran out early and was not refilled The Romano restaurant food was good. I understand the hotel has been bought and run by a property developer. It needs a hotelier in charge . There is no named manager to contact or take responsibility. Such a shame in a lovely building We did not use the spa

A lovely traditional hall with all the modern amenities needed for a great stay. Spa area is comfortable and modern with an outside patio if the weather’s nice. Breakfast was excellent and the Italian restaurant was very nice if a little pricey. All in all a very nice hotel and value for money.
