Twenty eight of us sat down for lunch on the twenty first, and what a lunch! Really lovely food and fast efficient service ,all done with a smile. Maria and Kat did such a good job. I simply do not recognise the poor review below! We will certainly be back asap!

From the outset we were made very welcome. The area is a beautiful part of the country and there is a fair amount to see- especially if you like interesting castles and churches. A well appointed hotel with a nice garden to sit in.

Please ignore the negative review below this one. That poster's sole contribution to Trip Advisor doesn't promise much for their future as a reviewer. The Bell at Skenfrith is a restaurant in which you will find yourself eating more and more slowly to make things last. I wanted my Perl Las soufflé to last forever. And the lamb chops we had last week were divine. Desserts are always a treat, the location on the banks of the Monnow is wonderful and the staff are excellent, every bit as welcoming if you've come in for a pint or even a glass of water(!!!), as they are for the full gastronomic experience. One of the best destination pubs you can find in the area.

We were walking the Three Castles route and stayed here for the night before we started and the last night of a 2 day walk. The room we had was spacious with a king sized bed and a very large bathroom. It was at the back of the hotel and overlooked the gardens. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for the 2 nights we stayed here and the food was very good. A pre dinner drink in the sunshine on the patio was also very pleasant.

Called in today for a birthday Sunday lunch. We hit the jackpot. My favourite beer - Wye Valley HPA, and a fabulous bottle of Californian Zinfandel. The charcuterie board starter was exceptional and as the last table to be seated, I was delighted to get rare roast beef. Usually by 2pm it's on the well done side. All in all a lovely meal with very good service. It may not be the cheapest around, but you get what you pay for.

3 night stay Excellent on all counts particularly service. Particularly imaginative menus changing each day, perfectly cooked. Chef happy to make minor changes. A great base for Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons walking or the splendid border castles and churches

Super facilities, friendly, competent staff, lots of space and a perfect spring day. The Bell is in the middle of nowhere but 100% worth the journey. Minor grumbles: shampoo etc labels in the bathroom are illegible and the fresh fruit offering for breakfast was limited

A perfect country getaway Maria, who is front of house, was so welcoming and later, in the dining room she tirelessly looked after us and all the other guests. The food was fantastic and I understand her husband is head chef, Joseph Colman. The rooms were attractive and very comfortable with lovely bathrooms. I would certainly recommend this as a wonderful getaway.

We stayed at the Bell for 3 nights in February and it was fantastic from beginning to end. Maria and all the staff were amazing and very helpful and welcoming. Our room was super comfortable and quiet and we couldn’t have wished for more. The food was outstanding. Our intention was to eat locally at other restaurants but after the first evening we dined there every night and between us sampled the entire menu. There is magic happening in the kitchen for sure. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and Maria was on hand to give us maps for the local walking routes. A perfect place to stay.
