Very clean, beautiful scenery. When checking in, we were charged a $100 resort fee plus 2 breakfasts.

The best description I can offer is faded elegance. Very faded! The restaurant in the hotel is closed Monday and Tuesday for lunch and dinner so it is a five mile drive into Mendocino to eat. Maintenance on the property is very poor. The phone in our $600 a night room was dead. The gas fireplace did not work. There was a disgusting clump of hair on the shower drain. There are clearly abandoned buildings on the property. The included buffet breakfast was reminiscent of Motel 6. BUT it was quiet and the views are spectacular. The Little River Inn, just up the road toward town, is still quite elegant and a much greater value.

Loved our room! Such beautiful views! A big thing for me is bed comfort, the bed was amazing. The curtains do an excellent job of blocking light out, the pilot light for the fireplace being on all the time bothered me, so if you hate any sort of light while trying to sleep bring an eye mask. The guy who checked us in was so nice and gave me some good food recs. I did not try out the spa but it looked cute. I had breakfast two days, good but no meat both days, not sure is this is the case all the time but would have been nice to have that option before going out for a hike and a long day. No room service, would be stoked if they offered it in the future. When checking reviews I saw some people saying it’s not resort like. I’m not sure what type of resort like feeling they are looking for on the Mendocino coast. It’s a quiet, spread out property, I enjoyed not being among a bunch of people and staff are chill with minimal interactions unless approached and personally that’s what I prefer. I can’t wait to return!

This is a wonderful place to stay. Please do not be put off by any negative comments. The accommodations are superior, very private; and may include a private deck for ocean viewing. A walk on the acreage results in different fabulous views of the coastline, and you may walk down stairs to the beach; beach is rocky, may not subtable for swimming , but with a beach chair you could spend a few hours surfside. Excellent full breakfast; kind, helpful staff - you receive great value for your room rate.

An amazing experience for us for our 49th wedding anniversary. Loved walking the grounds and down to the beach. 2nd time we have been there… and definitely going back… same time next year!! 🥂

Scenery and views are second to none..breathtaking; we stayed in a beautiful 2 bedroom with heated floors in bathroom, gas fireplace, and porch with great views. Most importantly, we arrived after dark and were very tired. The evening manager, Duck, went above and beyond to help my dad and I. He ran back to the restaurant to help us get dinner to go, as we had not eaten and it was closing time for the restaurant. Then we began our drive to our room with was up, down, and around winding roads and we simply could not see where we were driving. We drove back to the main building and asked Duck if he could help us. He met us in the back of the building and walked and guided us to our room with his flashlight. Then he opened up our unit, with our permission, and went in to start the fireplace to warm up our room!! What a gem of an employee and a wonderful man!!

Enjoyed being spoiled by the attentive staff at Heritage House while we lapped up the splendid views of the ocean waves hitting the rocks from all around the property including our living room and bedroom and deck, the restaurant, and the walk down to the beach. I guess the boardwalk down to the beach must have been fixed since the reviewer two weeks ago because it was firm and solid and we had no safety concerns. The grounds were well-maintained (not "manicured", this is after all a huge oceanfront resort in Northern California sustaining an ecosystem and not a small urban patch of green groomed within an inch of its life) and flowers were in bloom all over. We ate well with an abundance of choice at breakfast and dinner and enjoyed the peace and calm of breakfast and the lively energy of dinner with a talented musican on the Spanish guitar. We will be back for sure!

OK, I debated whether to write a review about this incredible place because I can't be totally complimentary, but here goes. I rated it excellent because the location and movie history alone warrants that. Most people will live their entire lives and never stay anywhere with such stunning views. The staff, OMG, is the best thing about it, after the location of course. The cabins are nice, but currently there are multiple ones where the gas fireplaces are a hair above pilot light status AND THAT IS THE ONLY HEAT FOR THE ROOM. The sliding double doors to the bathroom looks better on paper than in practice...not too smooth. Breakfast with no meat. Hmm. Don't eat there for dinner. Menu is curious and expensive. As a big fan of the movie "Same Time, Next Year, this place will always be special, but of all the places in the western world to have a low quality black and white XEROX photo of the stars, Alan Alda and Ellen Burstein over the fireplace...c'mon guys. Get a decent photo. I proposed at the Gazebo, and she said yes. It was magical. However, the gazebo is showing significant signs of rot in spots. Same for the floor planks around the property. If I lived in the area and there was a Home Depot, I'd volunteer to repair the gazebo, the porch flooring and the roofing on that structure that you look at while you eat. I've been there several times over 50 years and never took the walk down to the beach. DO NOT DO IT. The steps and railings are sturdy, although amateurishly thrown together, but at the beach level there is a floor of rotting whatever. Stepped in it and it is not something you'll soon forget. Bottom line: It is beyond beautiful, but they need about $20,000 in maintenance and a good maintenance man. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed, and they won't be the same issues if I return same time, next year. This is not the Hampton Inn. This place has history, people's memories and it comes with it the responsibility to vigorously maintain the property.
