Cold shower and poor water pressure, towels were smelly. Condescending owner said it wasn't his fault we had a cold shower, we should have been told to turn the shower to fully open to get a warm shower and the poor pressure was because of the water company turning down the pressure. So tell me why don't they tell you before you book. The drive and parking is a nightmare. And the towels need a boil wash. We also paid for a so called superior room, and once again the owner said we were lucky because we got a discount. We have stayed in lots of hotels but this place is one of the worst. It will be interesting to see what the owner replies because he want to accept any responsibility. Don't go to this place you will regret it

What a wonderful unique place to stay. Quirky, clean, well equipped with everything you could possibly want. Breakfast was good quality and tasty. The carpark was a bit a steep but you are warned of this well in advanced. It's situated within walking distance of the castle, cathedral and lots of shops, restaurants and places to get refreshments. Most of all the staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble

From the second we entered the building we were blown away with the outstanding hospitality. Staff are very knowledgable about the area and places to visit and the owners have sourced local and sustainable food and toiletries ( which smelled gorgeous) We received a lovely welcome and our bags were carried upstairs for us. Our room had the most amazing view as far as Newark and Nottingham power station and over Lincoln. The room was so comfortable and had everything you could wish for. The mini fridge in the room was filled with local goodies at a very reasonable price and welcome after being out for a few drinks. Excellent selection of teas and coffee pods. I always struggle with mattresses due to a bad back but this was honestly one of the best nights sleep I have ever had away from home. The Hotel is in a very enviable position in the heart of Lincoln. Fantastic gem of a hotel and please do not hesitate to book.

Brilliant location for visiting Castle & Cathedral very quiet too. Has a back door entry/exit via door code to both which is very convienient. Breakfst good cooked to order, room & bed good too. Not for the very aged or infirm but we managed to have agreat time aged 76. Car park on site was OK & very handy in Lincoln just be careful entering & leaving [slowly ] We will return

Great value - we booked online so price included breakfast, there was a good choice and the full English was very good. The room was lovely, large comfortable bed, kettle and coffee machine, fresh milk in the mini fridge - everything you could need. Lovely ensuite shower room. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only downside - the parking. If you have a low car do not attempt the very steep drive to the on site parking!! They did provide us with a perking permit but unfortunately as it was so busy on the day we arrived we struggled to find a space.

We've just returned from a lovely weekend at The Poplars and have been really impressed. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay, all staff we came across were very friendly and very helpful, and the location was perfect and within easy walking distance of all the sights. It is on a steep hill so for anyone with mobility problems it may be an issue but otherwise a great place to stay

The first thing to mention is the driveway, yes it’s a little intimidating but perfectly doable with patience and care. We went in a Škoda Karoq and managed it and there was also a larger car parked up when we arrived. If you are a nervous driver in a large car I wouldn’t attempt it and ask for a permit. Parking situation at first confused me but the hotel managed it exceptionally well. I had to move my car once at breakfast, no problem at all! We upgraded to a superior room and it was lovely. Very clean, everything thought of, Netflix and nespresso machine a lovely touch. Found the bed to be very comfortable and the sheets were so soft I didn’t want to go home haha. Breakfast offers a great choice, with nice service. We didn’t get the porridge we ordered on the first day but we were so full we didn’t mention it, I know if we had it wouldn’t have been a problem, the staff are super friendly! The food itself is very nice and high quality. The location of the hotel sits atop the city next to the castle. It will pose issues for people with mobility problems, but that can be solved with using your car with a permit and taxis. It’s in a lovely location and we walked into the city multiple times only requiring a taxi back once because it was very late. Access to the hotel, rooms and rear gate, is via coded locks which is very convenient to come and go as you please but feel safe that no one else can get in. We will absolutely return and do highly recommend giving it a try!

Booked this with a voucher and wonder if this made a difference to the service. Had to pay £20 per night because it was a weekend. If we had wanted a cooked breakfast rather than the continental it would have cost £19.50 per person. ( bit steep in my opinion). We were arriving late Friday night and I had to contact them to find out how to get in as there is no one there after six. I payed £5 per night to park but the car park was full so had to find a space on one of a few adjoining streets. Not suitable for the elderly as it’s a steep climb back up. I was given a parking permit but to get it back on the day of leaving if it hadn’t been for the generosity of a fellow guest who walked to my car then walked back with it I would have struggled. Breakfast tables are shared with other guests whether you like it or not. Staff could also have been more friendly Sorry will not return just not our cup of tea
