The Hare and Hounds, Levens

We enjoyed a one night stay at the Hare and Hounds on Sunday 8th September. Having been here before we had high expectations… and were not disappointed! The welcome, the friendly attentive staff, the country pub and all it had to offer, the splendid comfortable bedroom along with fabulous food served in the restaurant could not have been any better! We had a beef Sunday roast and it was fantastic then the cooked breakfast the next morning was superb - clearly high quality farm produce used, and again really warm friendly service. Thanks for a lovely stay - we will definitely return and it doesn’t go unnoticed just how much effort the proprietors put into this place - it was simply excellent and your hard work clearly pays off!

I stayed at the Hare and Hounds for one night at the start of August as a stopover on my way from London to Aberdeen. I am really glad that I chose it. I stayed in the Cottam room which had a very comfortable double bed and a big bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower. The room was very clean and had lots of little things that made it slightly more special. There was proper ground coffee and a cafetiere in the room along with a fridge that contained a small bottle of proper milk – none of those little UHT things. The room had a good TV and the wi-fi seemed to work fine. When I booked, they emailed to advise me to book for dinner which was a good idea as the place was really busy (Friday night in the middle of summer). The food was good, as was the beer - they have several local beers on tap. Breakfast was included in the room rate. Again, there were little touches that made it special such as proper bread for the toast. All the staff were really friendly and I would definitely stay there again.

As a party of 8, including grandparents and grandchildren finding an appropriate venue can sometimes be tricky. Thankfully The Hare and Hounds did not disappoint. Exemplary service, very warm and welcoming to everyone. We asked for slight modifications to the menu (you know what children are like!) and nothing was a problem. All the meals were delicious and the puddings were to die for. Thank you for such a lovely evening and we will definitely be back.

Had a great meal there of lamb stew with Greek salad (Greek style) and my wife had fish and chips. Pure perfection! Plus a bottle of very agreeable Chilean merlot. The place is fantastic, in a beautiful part of the near Lake District. If I lived closer by I would visit more often. The lady in charge was brilliant too.

Very average food for a very boujee price. £19 for a roast dinner that doesn't come with mash (had to pay extra £4). So in total my roast was £23. The roast beef was dry and kale, snap peas and courgettes with the roast was a first for me. The wife got a pizza which was ok but did look like a 5 year old had made it. The waitress did knock 3.79 off the bill when I complained but overall was disappointed.

Been here a lot over the years. Not been for a while and the food is still tip top amazing! One thing though the service felt very rushed. It was obvious they wanted us in and out and soon as possible, even though it was a quiet night. Shame. Will not be rushing back.

Parking directly opposite the hotel. About 12 places but a very popular place to eat so an evening arrival might struggle to park. A very well decorated small room immaculately clean with TV, fridge, tea and coffee facilities and good WiFi. Nice size ensuite shower. A comfortable bed led to a really pleasant quiet nights rest. Breakfast full or lighter English breakfast or several good alternatives like salmon with scrambled eggs on toasted bread, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. Fruit juice, tea or coffee and more. All tasty, well prepared and served in a very friendly efficient way. Dinner was a good choice of pub food at reasonable prices. I decided on the traditional English dinner roast beef and Yorkshire pud-ding with vegetables. Helen had Mediterranean tagliatelle with goats cheese. Both very tasty served in a pleasant new restaurant area, or it could be in one of the several cosy pub rooms.

We were here for 3 nights as a couple while friends were staying in a local Caravan site. The room is very very well appointed . A large bed , fantastic shower , fresh milk direct from the cow in your room! Room Garnett . We stayed for food on one night and wished we had stayed f’the next night . The quality and service was most excellent. The breakfast is exceptional with local produce . We had to leave one night early due to our son having been given military leave at short notice . Yvonne and the owners were so understanding and it was not an issue regarding the booking . We are grateful . You know an establishment is good when they think of you before their needs. We can not wait to come back . Please stay here , we have stayed in 5 star hotels in the Lakes and this was …..better . Thank you H&H

We visited the pub for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. We went into The Barn Restaurant. We had pre-booked but on a Tuesday midday in April it wouldn't have been necessary. The welcoome and service was excellent. My husband and I had the Hot Seafood start, which was delicious, one of the best starters I've had for a while. Then all three of us tried the pizzas, wel all wanted something different but this was no problem and they were all delcious. We followed this with three different but equally delicious desserts. An excellent visit and we will be back. I would highly recommend. If you go at busy times it would be advisable to book first.
