Staying in a B&B down the road for a family do, and the owner said this was the nearest place to eat....wish we had asked what was next nearest..... 7.30 on a Saturday night and it was 95% empty. We were shown to a table, but told not go to the bar to order drinks, the waitress would take our order. Well how are we supposed to know what beers/lagers there are if we can't go and look?? The food was incredibly average, the chicken in my flatbread was as tastless as the flatbread. Very depressing place, and I am glad it's not my local.

Every time I have frequented the Caledonian I am always asked 'have you booked'. Even when it resembles the Marie Celeste and it's 3.30pm on a rainy Tuesday. So, this time I booked it, easy website and no issues. We arrived one minute before our time slot and waited to be acknowledged and seated. And waited, and waited while a member of staff ( less than four feet away) was hanging over one of the booths, having an in depth chat with the diners. Obviously these were friends as there's no way you would be practically sitting in the booth with strangers. Eventually after pointedly eye balling her and a rather loud stage whisper of 'do you think she sees us' we were shown to our table. The food was very good and fairly priced. The other waiter and waitress were pleasant and efficient. Would recommend but senior staff member should be leading by example.

Stayed 2 nights as we were booked on the 'Oban Explorer' SRPS Train trip from the new Leven Station. Check-in was swift and friendly. We ate in the restaurant on one evening and have to say the S1ervice & Food was excellent. Had the Ribeye Steak with Peppercorn & Brandy Sauce - the Sauce at £1.45 extra was a real surprise, have been charged elsewhere up to an extortionate £6 for sauce!! Beds were very large & comfortable but the floors both in & outside the room, were very 'creaky'. Breakfast was good with more than adequate options. Overall a pleasurable stay & within a very short walk of the Station. Would we stay again - definitely if & when we are in the area.

Another great evening at the Caledonian. My husband had steak which he said was perfectly cooked and I had salmon. Our server Lynne goes the extra mile to help diners which is very much appreciated. Thanks to the chef and the rest of the lovely staff too.

Took family for a celebratory meal to mark a very special and unique anniversary. Made a scouting visit then returned with 4 generations for a family get together meal. Service was outstanding with food to meet each and everyone’s needs from 4 to 70s. Lynne, who had served us on our first visit remembered us from our initial visit, rolled out the red carpet for us and went beyond reasonable to ensure our evening was both enjoyable and memorable. She had even organised an appropriate celebratory card for the occasion. Felt highly valued as a customer and convinced that what we had experienced was the norm for any further visits. Thank you and will back very soon. Lynne - you made our day and carved a special family memory.

An ok stay but a bit expensive for average quality The walls were very thin, like in any older building. It was however so thin that we heard the neighbours' conversations very clearly, which was not great for any of us..

Myself and my 3yo daughter came to the grill for dinner as a daddy daughter date due to mum having plans, it’s not often we get time just the both of us. Initially it seemed great, despite being busy, we got our order taken quickly and one member of staff brought colouring in for my daughter. We chose to skip starters as I knew my daughter would be keen to get a dessert, but after we had finished our mains, we sat with our empty plates for 40 minutes waiting for a member of staff to move us on to desserts. During this 40 mins others were served, tables cleaned and orders taken but nobody had even looked in our direction, I tried getting the attention of the far away staff but was not seen. It had gotten considerably less busy the later the night went on so it wasn’t as if the staff were still ran off their feet but it seemed like a lot of them had disappeared through the back and I had tried all but walking up to the bar to ask to be moved forward with our meal. Eventually my daughter decided she was too tired and wanted to go home instead of wait longer for the dessert she was so excited for 40 mins ago so we approached the bar and paid the bill and left. This was disappointing as we have had great experiences here before but this time I felt we were out in a corner and forgotten about, which was a pretty rotten feeling as a parent when you are trying to give your child a great day and she’s left disappointed. In hindsight I should have approached the bar sooner but I also feel I shouldn’t have to do this and felt a bit anxious to do so.
