About 9 years of experience with this hotel. Visited often and until this year always had good experiences, that's why I've been so often. Unfortunately, the experiences of the last 2x, this year 2024, are a lot less, with the most recent being extremely disappointing. We had the more luxurious room. The carpet was dirty and the climate control in the room did not work, it made us sick. Safe was broken, young man couldn't get it to work and called for the handyman, at the reception he asked if we were really going to use it... duh, otherwise you wouldn't ask for it of course. The dinner was quite stripped down for the prices you pay and the service was not really friendly. The table next to us had a complaint about the food but nothing was done about it. "I can pass it on, but nothing will be done with it," it was said. Special. The swimming pool and wellness were dirty. Very slippery floors in the sauna area and a very dirty swimming pool, dirty floor and a lot of dirt, for example a gigantic strand of hair floating in the water, very dirty. There is also a wing where asylum seekers are housed. It seems like a lot is being done to hide this. On the parking side we saw some people come out of the door and sit on the balcony, on the garden side there was no one outside... Be transparent about it! We have no problem with the reception of asylum seekers, but as a tourist you pay a lot of money for a weekend away, so be transparent about the fact that there is a wing where these people "live", and also about the circumstances, because it is best a strange sensation that gives you the idea that those people are housed there under heavy restrictions. No more Hotel Assen for us. Quite a shame because it used to be such a nice hotel.
