It's a shame that this hotel is so tired. It has the potential to be stunning. I've stayed in some fabulous country house hotels, and defending the hotel as a listed building is not really a good enough excuse for how run down it is. In our room there were no sockets by the bed (despite there obviously being electricity there as there are wall mounted bedside lamps). For someone who uses a CPAP machine overnight, this is a pain. Reception were able to supply us with a fairly short extension lead which thankfully did reach from the desk. The restaurant had a rather large party in it, so we chose to sit in the (quieter) bar to eat. The fabric chairs were quite grubby looking, as is the decor. The food was nice though! The room was ok, but tired looking. Several large cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. The bathroom was terrible. Many cracked floor tiles, the extractor fan and heated/illuminated mirror did not work, rusty radiator, no heating (neither towel rail or radiator working), sink tap wasn't fixed down properly, the sink tap didn't get hot, and the shower screen leaked all over the floor! The staff were friendly and we advised them of the issues when we left, and they assured us they'd have maintenance take a look. I couldn't recommend this to anyone.
