Although the room was ok the biggest let down was the breakfast !! Although plentiful, it was full of so much sweet and chocolaty stuff we couldn’t eat it. Chocolate filed croissants chocolate chip flap jacks sugar coated crunchy nut cornflakes etc etc. Apart from the three apples in the fruit bowl there were no healthy options !! Even they didn’t look that appetising!! The long life yogurts and the lack of decent coffee completed the picture ! As a previous reviewer mentioned, there was butter and jam in the fridge and a toaster but no sight of any bread 🤷‍♀️ Coffee machine had 3 pods of / guess what ?! Hot Chocolate !! I guess if you’re a lover of chocolate this is the place to go but not for us !! Cute as they were scratching round in the garden I did not want to be woken up at 0520 by screeching chickens !!

DANGEROUS & NEGLIGENT - EVICTED AT MIDNIGHT I am writing this review to warn others of the dangerous and shocking behaviour I experienced at Norlande. The stay started poorly with a tiny room and, as I was only informed the day before arrival, a toilet three flights of stairs away. However, this was nothing compared to what happened later. At around 12:15 AM, I found water leaking from the base of the coffee maker provided in my room. To prevent an obvious electrical hazard, I immediately unplugged the unit. Pulled the unit out to see if it was leaking else where. The owner then burst into my room, furious about the noise. I clearly explained the situation and pointed to the leaking appliance. He even looked at the unplugged cable and about the place. He completely ignored my concerns for safety. His response was to evict me on the spot. He threw me out onto the street in Shetland, after midnight, in the cold. I was left with no choice but to start the 23km walk to the airport to make my morning flight. He had also called the police, who stopped me on my walk but were reanobly understanding once I explained the situation. A local resident kindly gave me a lift for the final few kilometres. To be placed in danger by faulty equipment, and then be evicted and abandoned by the owner for simply dealing with that danger, is the worst treatment I have ever encountered from any business. This was not just bad service; it was negligent and unsafe. For your own safety and dignity, I strongly advise you to book elsewhere.

Good. Plus side - well equipped, breakfast is in your room ( ok if that's what you want), ensuite with mega power shower! Downers - something strange with the plumbing, noisy. Mild grumble - the breakfast didn't offer and bread or fruit. There was a toaster, butter, jam - but nothing to put it on!

I stayed at Norlande for a week and on the whole I enjoyed my stay. The room ‘Northern Lights’ on the first was exceptionally clean and the four poster bed comfortable. The room was made up daily which I appreciated too. Being spring in Shetland the sun comes up around 5 - I’d have really appreciated some curtains or a blackout blind over the window. I only met Amanda, the host, on one occasion having done a self check in - although the ease of checking was very simple I would have liked to have had a gentle knock at the door to say hello and check if all was fine. Amanda was very friendly when I bumped into her with another guest though. I ended up going out for breakfast every day as sadly the breakfast basket that was left in the room (although well stocked) didn’t have an option for my dietary restrictions Overall I liked the guest house and the facilities are very good but curtains would have been appreciated

Awsome - We’ll come back. Great host Amanda, who was very informed and plesant. Got fresh breakfast deliverd in the room every day. Very good bed, Nice and tidy room. Very cute chickens in the garden. A short walk to everything in Lerwick. No disturbance at all Thank you for the stay

Amanda and family are great and can't do enough for their guests. A lovely little wicker picnic basket of breakfast goodies wi as well as yoghurt orange juice butter and preserves in the fridge replenished every day for you to have breakfast at your leisure in your room. Great idea. Rooms have a toaster, fridge, microwave and capsule coffee maker as well as the usual kettle and tea / coffee supplies. As an added bonus for visitors to the annual Folk Festival it's within sight of the festival club and very central. Great powerful shower also and everything absolutely spotless. A credit to Shetland and would highly recommend.
