Avoid going to this Hotel. It has been closed down (mid February). We booked last November 24 and didn't find out until we tried to get into a locked building in March 25. We were told by locals the place had been closed down due to unpaid bills and the staff not having been paid.

To be avoided . The owner is very unprofessional. He sits at the bar drinking beer and ordering his staff around . The service charge is stupidly high for the level of service . The food was very poor . The pub looks very tired and dated . We will not be returning again .

We popped in for lunch at this absolute gem in the heart of Lavenham, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The Angel is a charming gastropub that beautifully blends rustic character with modern dining. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and chose a cozy table by the wood burner, which adds perfectly to the ambiance making The Angel a perfect spot for a winter’s lunch. There was something for everyone on the menu, with choices ranging from burgers and salads to fish and chips. I was tempted by the sausage and mash and told I wouldn’t be disappointed. I wasn’t, the pork sausages and rich, hearty gravy were absolutely delicious. My partner was equally delighted with her smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber sandwich. Though we were already quite full from the generous portions, we couldn’t resist sharing a rice pudding of the day. Today’s was orange-infused and was a fabulous and memorable twist on this classic dessert. If you’re a local or a visitor exploring Lavenham’s medieval streets, whether it’s for a fabulous meal, or even just a drink by the fire, a visit to The Angel is a must.

Great place. Comfy beds. Staff have been very nice. Delicious evening meal. Goats cheese pannacotta was fantastic and the chicken Ballantine was perfectly presented with delicious root vegetables- so good. A great surprise - congratulations to the chef.

We had a table for three for Sunday lunch. We all had the vegetarian roast, which was absolutely delicious, with plenty of it! We still managed to find room for a dessert. The sweet menu was great - shame I didn’t have the nerve to ask for seconds - even though there was more than ample on the first servings. We spent a very enjoyable afternoon at The Angel, well looked after and not in any way rushed. Thank you, John and all your staff, we will be back soon.x

Had lunch here. firstly I wanted lamb kofta with chips substituting rice. The answer was you can buy extra chips & you will still get the rice which I wouldn't eat. So I orderd hot smoked salmon salad with prawns. This was really prawn salad with a very little salmon. On paying I was also stung 12.5% for service for a pub meal.

Easy parking on road outside of the hotel, check in at the bar. Room was a good size and well equipped. Bed was comfortable and the whole room was generally clean The shower in the bathroom had no hit s water in the morning, it was only like warm from the sink tap as well. Due to this and the disgusting hall way carpets I would not choose to stay here again,

Being a historic building, built in 1420 (along with others in the township), and having received little maintenance since, that the buildings would be a little wonky. The Hotel is no exception, and crookedness (of an honest type) is apparent everywhere. Really brings living in a “crooked little house” to life. Quite an experience. Hotel room was of a reasonable size and its décor certainly gave you a feeling of stepping back in time. Room contained a large comfortable bed, dressers and wardrobe, enabling plenty of space for storing luggage. En-suite was of an adequate size and contained a good shower over bath, complimentary toiletries and shelving to store one’s own. Hotel also caters for all meals if, and as, desired. Being located in the centre of Lavenham, however, there is plenty of opportunities to sightsee and eat elsewhere. Parking is a considerable issue, with the best advice being to leave parking your car till after most visitors have dispersed from the town and then grab a spot and retaining it by leaving your car there for the duration of your stay. Excellent free Wi-fi.

This is a quaint well appointed hotel in the lovely village of Lavenham; my partner and I stayed for one night over the Easter weekend. We did enjoy our stay but unfortunately their was a few points that let it down; firstly the service for our pre booked table for the evening meal was very slow in that not only did we have to wait 45 minutes before they even took our food order we had to ask twice before they even brought us drinks! We questioned this and were told that they had a “big” order (that turned out to be a table of 5) that had to be for filled before they could come to us…. The excuse given was that there was issues with the equipment in the kitchen; sorry but for a restaurant that is positioning itself at the higher end of the midrange market that is simply not good enough. On the plus side the food when it eventually arrived was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal but upon paying the bill we quite reasonably asked for the service charge to be removed but the girl called Millie who appeared to be the supervisor seemed visibly annoyed at that request and struggled to stay polite ( it felt like “who the hell were we to ask for the service charge removal”) The service charge was removed in the end. Lastly I came down to breakfast alone and had ordered the full English which came out promptly unfortunately one of the sausages was clearly out of date it smelt and tasted off - I literally spat it out back onto my plate. I mentioned this to Millie when I paid the bill and she seemed totally uninterested and no offer to reduce the bill was forthcoming; I didn’t want a confrontation so waited to write a trip advisor review instead. Unfortunately Millie who appears to have her feet firmly under the table there had a generally bad attitude to paying customers and perhaps should not work in a customer facing roll and leave it to the girls that work there. I don’t know if we caught her on a bad day (we all have them) but nevertheless the attitude to reasonable request left a lot to be desired. To end on a positive note the room was clean and worth the money we paid and despite the issues above I’d be willing to give the place another go..
