Lapphaugen Turiststasjon

The title says it all, really. I have traveled the country a bit, but Lapphaugen stands out. Very friendly staff who are happy to help you out. It's my second time staying here, first time was in 2016 in one of cheaper cabins. This time it's a more expensive one with it's own shower and restroom. The cabins are nicely build and clean, too. There are free showers in the service building as well, plus free WiFi and free use of washing machines. So, while the camping ground as a whole might be on the more expensive side, there's no additional costs. Had a breakfast this morning (it needs to be pre booked) and it was really nice. Will be trying out the restaurant/café later this day. Only smelled the food so far, but it does smell really nice. That's a good start, isn't it? ;) The surrounding area is beautiful as well, but you need to have some luck with the weather. First time staying here it was raining and foggy on top of that. Today the sun is shining.

Considering that it’s a hut on an isolated campsite, my cabin was comfortable and homey, with a well equipped kitchen and a full bed, though it almost filled the bedroom, so that there was no space for clothes storage (if staying for more than just a night or two) and one even had to squeeze around the bed to get to the bathroom. The curtain rail was loose and potentially dangerous. The bathroom was fully refurbished, and there was a large sitting and dining area, which seemed a bit odd since the place sleeps only 2, but there is living space for 6 or 10 persons, though one extra could sleep on the sofa. There is also a cafe on site serving dinner and breakfast, but no proper shop. Breakfast needs to be prebooked, but was very nice: as full a Scandinavian breakfast table for one as you could imagine. The place was staffed mostly by youngsters who just about seemed to know what they were doing. The need to rent bedlinen separately seems a bit odd or antiquated, but I suppose it keeps the headline price down. But the bottom sheet supplied was slightly too small for the bed! In any other country I would regard over 100 € for bed and breakfast in a campsite as exorbitant, but for Norway it’s fairly standard. This is a good stopping off point coming from Lofoten and heading for the north coast – though still 1000 km to Kirkenes. The scenery is impressive, but best viewed when the rain stops and the fog clears.
