Fabulous and quiet hotel located near Bodmin. Great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We had a 3 night stay. Had our room changed the second day as we had a connecting door to the room behind with a noisy family and could hear all the squealing and banging. The reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and found an alternative room which wasn't quite as nice but was quiet. On our last morning at breakfast (Saturday) a big group of bikers came in and the residents were shown to their tables and basically left while they served the bikers. We had to go and find someone to take our order in the end then half an hour later had to ask where it was. A couple of the residents told them to cancel their breakfasts as they couldn't wait any longer, they had to get off. One of them said to the waitress 'have the hairy bikers had my breakfast?'. Obviously they couldn't cope with the numbers but no one came to apologize or to let us know what was going on. But we did think it was a bit off to ignore the residents over people just stopping off for breakfast. It spoiled it a bit to be honest. In general the staff were all really nice and helpful. We saw some lovely sunsets from the garden and looked around the museum. Didn't see any ghosts! But we stayed in the newer part. Still deciding whether we would go back. The road noise didn't really bother us but the rooms seemed very warm

I can't begin to say how much me and my wife enjoyed our 2 night stay at this wonderful place this weekend. Plz plz say a big Ty to all the staff . They were ALL! And we mean ALL such wonderful and professional people from the bar staff to the waiters / waitress /cleaners shop staff and reception nothing was to much trouble, the time they took to interact with you and even if they were busy they still took time to make you feel humbled. The food was just fabulous, our room we had was beautifully presented and comfy and spotless. I cannot recommend this place anymore!. We are already booking again for September.

Booked a table for Sunday 18th may which was fine, However after ordering at the bar we went to our table,we waited for nearly an hour and then were informed that there wasn't any lamb and that beef turkey or gammon were the option. Not a good start, when meals arrived peas and vegetables were barely warm asked for extra gravy but that wasn't much better overall very disappointing, considering how much has changed the carvery has gone made way for more tables as we have visited for the past few years we could not fault it but the standard has dropped.

Stopped off on the way back from our holiday at St Ives for a meal, a treat for my husband’s birthday. We unfortunately got caught up in an accident on the A30 and thought we would lose our table, a lovely lady called Becky kept our table for us even though we were nearly 2 hours late getting there. Fantastic place and lovely meal, I love that’s there’s a gift shop and a farm shop there too
