A Grand Old Lady. that's how to describe this this wonderful old hotel which is slowly being brought back to life and into the 21st century. At first when we were lead down the stairs from the front of the house past the kitchen and Large function room and toilets, I was wondering what have i booked for the 6 of us (4 rooms) the place how ever was clean and tidy well looked after. rounding the corner of the corroder we came to our rooms with only the light form the over head lights my heart sank what have I done. how am i going to explain to the others about picking the place we are in what would have been the servant quoters. then as i entered my room ( the other were all in the same style). the light from a large window filled room sunlight in the middle of this large room was a soft King size bed on the wall a large LED TV and table to one side with of course a chair and two arm Chairs in a big empty space under the window. What can say about the bath room. it was so big you have fitted a double bed in there room for a unexpected gust LOL. altogether the room was like being in a first Class hotel can say it a 6star hotel. When they get the house finished 5stars want be enough to give it. Breakfast and dinner were all very, very, good

We’ve lived in the area for 8 years but have never visited The Eagle. We went there on a Saturday night for dinner and found it to be a bit of a gem. Initially however that seemed not to be the case because one enters from reception through what is somewhat confusingly called the dining room; a very depressingly sparse area with lots of empty tables and on the night we went only a handful of what seemed to be disconsolate diners. What you then encounter is a large bar and further dining area flanked on either side by two open air terraces, one of which enjoys a panoramic view across the town of Launceston and beyond. Although it was a little cold for us on the evening we went, it was easy to imagine what a fine place it would be to sit and enjoy an evening drink and indeed several of the tables outside were occupied by some hardier souls doing just that. There is an extensive a la carte menu populated with all the usual suspects of bangers and mash, burgers and so; however, we went for the table d’hôte’s choice of five main courses including – and what a rarity this is for carnivores – beef suet pie. It was delicious. The food all round was excellent and at £90 including beers and one of the house gins a very reasonable evening. Although when we arrived there were only a handful of others in, as the night wore on it became clear that The Eagle had been discovered by many people before us. And finally a mention for the staff. They’re friendly, fast and they seem to enjoy their work.

I didn't stay here overnight, but I came here for a date night meal with my boyfriend and the food, drink and the service was absolutely fantastic, I had a steak which was cooked perfectly to my taste option, they also had a 2 course special offer deal, I would highly recommend this as a place to dine

My wife and I stayed here last night whilst visiting friends. A friendly welcome, a superb room with dramatic views across the valley and an excellent full English. An absolutely delightful hotel in the heart of Cornwall’s picturesque old capital. The house gin is not to be missed. We’ll be back!

This wonderful old building is slowly being restored, so it still has some flaws (see door frame photo), but our stay was lovely. The welcoming staff showed us to a charming room - but somehow we failed to make the TV work. We were immediately offered an even nicer room, with stunning views - and a working TV! The hotel has creaky stairs and impressive chandeliers, all of which add to its charm. The only downside was the tiny TV (photo) - this really needs to be upgraded. Superb breakfasts. If we come back this way, we'd definitely stay here again.

Fabulous place for food & drinks. Good value for money. Lovely setting, great views, traditional hotel brought bang up to date by current owners. Great place for special events or a nice meal and drinks. Staff all friendly and polite and owners regularly on site.

Had a family party at the Eagle House, and the staff couldn’t have done any more to make our time there more welcoming and delicious. The balcony has the most wonderful view, the gin distillery bar is spectacular, and the service was top notch. The cauliflower cheese was to die for!
