I am in a very difficult position when it comes to evaluation. I use an electric wheelchair. A dear friend of mine lives outside in Las Palmas and she said it was wheelchair accessible. I have also corresponded with the accommodation where I wrote that I use an electric wheelchair. There is a small mobile ramp at the front door, made of metal. First surprise was at the lift, it fits about 2 people standing. No problem, there is a bigger lift. I can fit into a bigger lift with a shoehorn and it takes very good driving skills. It's okay, I'm a good driver, they give me a bit of training. Second surprise, bathroom door is about 50 cm wide or less. No problem, I can walk a few steps on flat ground. Another training session. Here I'm actually always wondering if I can't stand up, I'll come to the end of the world, I've levelled it, you know how big doors are required, and yet it's not, what do I do? So the hostel is not barrier free. If I rated it as accessible accommodation I would give it 0 stars. I gave the rating as a foot walker. Our accommodation is an apartment on one of the best beaches in Las Palmas. The beach stretches for 3 km in a bay. Our room is huge, as apartment has a sleeping area with beds so big we have to look for each other in it. :) a dressing table, not small, a living room with a sofa bed and a kitchenette with a cute little table. And a terrace so big I could dance on it with a view of the ocean. After recovering from the shock of the elevator and bath, I've loved the bathroom ever since. At last, a shower where the water actually runs down where it should and doesn't float, not only the whole apartment, but not even the part of the bath half a metre away. I was given a bath chair with adjustable legs, which again is a positive experience. The light switches are at my height, I enjoy being able to flick them wherever I go :D They clean every day, change the laundry towels. My stiffened joints have to be poked all over. We take the little cushions for this purpose with us when we are inland. But I can't bring them on the plane because of the weight limit. My dear friend told me to ask for extra pillows. So mountains of pillows were waiting. :) the bed is so comfortable, we can support all my joints so well. It's an hour less here than at home. Local time is 7.45am sunrise. It's a bit strange that it's dark for so long. From the balcony we can see and hear the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. I loved it here. In front of the hotel is the beach where people in wheelchairs are helped into the ocean.
