Room was a bit smaller than expected and was disappointed when dinner was not offered although it was advertised outside. Also hotel internet was good at the hotel but access to mobile was limited to 3G 1 bar. I expected more in Scotland.

I booked a superior room for 2 nights with breakfast, having bee told they didn’t do dinner bed and breakfast! We were allocated a disabled room which quite frankly must be the most unsuitable room for a disabled person never mind an abled bodied person. I had to fix the toilet seat which was ready to fall off, wall light needed a bulb and despite reporting this no action was taken to fix it. Many other small details were in need of attention including the situation being told that the restaurant was closed at 8pm Overall a very disappointing stay being compounded by no enquiry by any member of staff on how our experience had been. Would not recommend.

We, as a family of eleven, attended the Christmas party night on 20 Dec, 2024. This was based on having spent many previous years at their party nights and having had a fantastic night. This year, the main room was sparce and smelt damp, no seat covers or table decor, and all ceiling lights were on, taking away any potential atmosphere. Staff presentation was weird, some wearing heels/suit others wearing xmas t-shirts and another wearing what looked like a bathrobe . The starter and main were okay - the group finished their meals. The dessert was poor, not Eton Mess, rather a glass of whipped cream that had been left out too long! The waitress collected 10 uneaten desserts, I advised her of issue to be told 'I like it! Oh well, each to their own'. The Dj didn't interact at all with crowd and choice of music was poor. However, the main issue was the poor choice of alcohol. They serve Canti Prosecco, which costs £5 in Asda and charge £30, that's over an 80% mark up!!! It is sad to write this review, the Popinjay was once a go to venue for parties and weddings, not under the current ownership. Beautiful building not meeting its full potential.

I've just arrived and booked here instead of the beautiful Radstone Hotel. What can I say I'm disgusted. The outside is rundown the ashtrays outside full to brimming. The carpets mingling. The room and view I could just cry. I thought it was bad enough trsvelling for my dad's funeral but this has just about iced the cake

What a grand old lady. 245 years old. Arrived on the Sunday about 4pm lady on reception booked us. Dinner booked for 5.30 as the restaurant closed at 6pm.. Strange a bit early but never mind. Our room was num6 and it was lovely. A 4 poster bed. Fantastic. Bathroom was lovely looked to have been freshly refurbished. Anyway off too dinner. Busy restaurant with a couple of 6 in and a scattering of 2s.. Shown to a table and apologies were made for it not being set. The young lad was a bit forgetful but nice enough. The young lady was switched on and very good. Wee bit of a disappointment only 2 choices for gluten free but we were informed a new chef had started and he was doing new menus. The food was lovely . Nicely seasoned and an excellent presation. Excellent night's kip was had. Shower time in the morning was difficult or maybe different the pressure in the pipes was somewhat poor.. Now to give you some context. Being tall every time I moved the shower up the slide it stopped. Bit frustrating. Anyway off too breakfast which was lovely. Gluten free bread free available. Lovely over night stay in a lovely hotel

First I'd like to say it's an old building and it has its quirks ,we arrived there wasn't a friendly atmosphere at all from reception checked in asked what time we wanted dinner 6pm so we assumed that was for both days as no information given otherwise. Went to room yip it was as expected as I'd read all reviews and look at photos and was clean Went for dinner absolutely different welcome form a lady with blond hair very friendly compared to reception Older man behind bar also very nice and manager or tall man also very nice Sunday we had a lunch booked in lanark so we left and went believing our dinner was at 6pm turns out kitchen shut early on a Sunday so we had to go for dinner at 5pm, now it was by pure chance I found out about kitchen from a younger member of the team. Service was poor at dinner but I do believe that the the younger members of the team where being put under pressure which isn't nice to watch they tried there best to give a service , on Saturday we're given a service card to fill out on Sunday we weren't because our food order was wrong and our bill was wrong. No atmosphere food isn't the best but not the worst either When checking out we weren't asked how our Stay was We are looking for a wedding venue as we have friends, family in Blackwood , Stonehouse, Lanark,Airdrie we are from Glasgow so the location would have been ideal We didn't share the information as the minute you do , you don't get the true service
