Email sent following the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Still waiting for a response!! Booked a table for lunch for our friend’s birthday today and eventually had a main course served two hours after arriving!! The meals were a mixture of stone cold or burnt and were totally inedible. The excuse that you were short staffed and there was a function on would account for the painfully slow service but not the quality of the food!! Your manager still tried to make us pay for one of the meals which we refused to do but still charged for drinks !! I can honestly say it was the worst food and service we have ever experienced and would never recommend your establishment

Had a family lunch at the hotel. Place is lovely but the food snd service are absolutely terrible. Waited 40 min for starters even though there was only 2 other tables in. Same again for mains sns half hr fif coffees. Food was vile with gravy for the roast tasting like an ashtray as it had been burned black. It's such a shame as it could and should be a great place for families.

I was a solo late arrival. I had to walk through the outside area where people were smoking cigarettes and other stuff. No lift, first floor room, no offer of help with luggage. The public areas downstairs looked fairly pleasant. The room wasn't clean. The bedding was crumpled and worn, like the room itself. The four poster bed creaked. I gave up waiting for the water to run warm, so no shower. Checked out at 7.30am without breakfast. An experience I will not forget nor repeat.

Went for the advertised Sunday roast and was left very disappointed. The restaurant itself felt very dark and dingy and the windows looked filthy. I ordered fried chicken cooked in honey from the menu for starters. The chicken came out red and just sat on top of a wrap on a small plate. no salad or garnish. I asked why it was red as chicken wasnt red and neither was honey. the waiter looked at me deadpan and stated it was what was stated on the menu. I asked if it was chicken tikka with honey on it and he said yes. I said the menu did not state chicken tikka with honey as I would not have ordered it if it had, it simply said fried chicken cooked in honey. It also did not state the starter was on a wrap of any kind. I couldn't eat it so just sat and waited an awful long long time for my Sunday roast to come out instead. When it did it was laughable. there were two rock hard Yorkshire's, some beef with gravy in the middle and some tinned new potatoes cut up on the other side. I asked where the veg was to be told they had none. we booked for 6pm and there was no veg left?! I was not informed at ordering it that they did not have any veg, any mash or anything to make the advertised roast, nor at any point after ordering until the plate was put in front of me. The waitress was lovely and tried her best to make the situation better. I didn't blame her at all. My husband said his Mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a packet so was also disappointed. We had to go in search for someone to pay our bill so we could get out of there. They did discount the 2 drinks from our bill but we certainly won't be back. Very disappointing first visit.

FAULTY TOWERS Lack of customer service and not as advertised. July 2025 FAULTY TOWERS . Went in July 2025 on arrival told food served till 8.30. Went to room nearly fell down stairs due to loose carpet. Tried to order food told chef gone home early by one member of staff and another said the gas had gone off! and to get a take away! Even though people eating still. Advised breakfast would be served without issues. Breakfast after ordering and several visits by staff told most items we wanted, as advertised, were not available. What we did receive was microwaved bacon over cooked scrambled egg and anemic sausage cold beans. All looked uncooked so didn't eat it. No apology or refund offered for the lack of food. When asked to see the Manager was told to wait, 20 minutes later no show. Emailed premises still waiting for a reply 14 days later! I would not recommend this place at all. Shabby service, obviously don't care about customer service. I would say to go elsewhere. Unsatisfied customer.

We had our wedding yestarday and it was the best day ever! The staff are so amazing. Cant praise them enough for all they have done for us. They have made us so welcome and they all couldn’t do enough for us. We have had loads of meals in the popinjay and every single time they have been amazing! Our meal for our wedding was so tasty & everyone loved it and great portions. Thank you to the chefs for all your hard work. The rooms were spotless and thats all you can ask for from a hotel. They are doing renovations so some rooms are dated but that takes time & still very beautiful. This has honestly been the best hotel I have stayed in for how they treat you and look after you. I especially want to thank you Elaine for all you have done for us you are a gem of a person. You filled us with so much ease and comfort and we are lucky to of had you look after our special day and you do an amazing job! A little shout out to Sam who stepped up when Elaine was finished her shift you worked so hard and you’re such a kind person with a bubbly nature. Thank you popinjay staff for all your hard work every single one of use. We wont forget our magical day and thats down to you all. We will see use all soon for some amazing food. Lots of love amy & Callum

My daughter had her wedding on Saturday 2nd August at this hotel. I would like to say a huge thank you to every single member of staff who worked so hard to make her day so special. You really all are so wonderful, kind, friendly, and hard working, going above and beyond to make her day so magical. Every detail from our rooms to the function suite was spot on, which must have taken such hard work due to ongoing improvements to the hotel . It was noticed and greatly appreciated . The food on the day was delicious and went down a treat for all the guests, so thank you to all staff who prepared the wedding day meal. Finally we wish the hotel and the staff great things going forward. The improvements to the hotel so far are beautiful, and once finished, I can only imagine what a remarkable place this will be. Thank you all again. You are all fabulous, and I hope to see you all again soon.

Me and my wife turned up here after seeing it opened back up as we liked the look of the menu, that was where the good parts ended. We walked through the door to be greeted with the smell of wet socks. Then to be told it would be a wait due to a weeding be hosted, so we said ok we will still give it a go. We sat in a sitting area for about 10 mins then got taken to our seat. We ordered our food and noticed there was another table in well before us that were still waiting to be served. We got out starters which the chicken pakora was not very warm and soggy as if it had been put in the microwave. Then we had to ask for our drinks to be brought over again after our starters were done. The glass we received was so dirty it was outrageous so I looked at the table beside us to see the other glasses were so dirty as well. I then looked about and everything including the windows were dirty, it showed a pattern of uncleanliness. We then got out mains to be greeted with a meant to be Peshawari naan rock hard didn’t look or taste as if it had just been made and there was no filling in it for the staff member to say the filling is put into the dough that wasn’t true either there was no taste. The chips we ordered only came after I had to go looking for the waitress to say we were missing our chips 7 chips in a portion and they were cremated. The curry itself was very nice. They were also limited on soft drinks but had to drink it out of the can due to the dirty glasses. In a whole I would defo not recommend there is always teething issues timing, staff shortages but not cleanliness the temp of the food and the inedible food that we were served. The amount of food on our plates was like a kids portion as well compared to Indian times and was the same price but you get better food and an overall better experience. My wife is usually saying I’m being too hard but she agreed with everything I have said in this review
