The Angel View Hotel

Been going here for years for a Sunday lunch when you get a seated you expect to be served within a few minutes NO YOU DONT you wait about 1/2 hr to 1 hour staff just wanders about obviously not checking if you have been attended to food not very good I've never been in any of the hotel rooms but for the bad reviews of them I wouldn't I will never be returning the manager needs to have a reality check there staff is incompetent and useless if anybody is going DONT, AVOID IT WITH CAUTION IT IS CRAP

Myself and partner just had our weekly meal here tonight I don’t know why we have not dined here before the meal we had was outstanding fresh and the staff were amazing extremely busy which was fantastic to see lovely cosy building nice and warm which isn’t often these days

Hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were helpful. BUT the WiFi wasn’t working and the coffee machine at breakfast wasn’t working properly and the coffee was weak. I had the Angel Burger at dinner which was nice but some of the “ chunky chips “ were not cooked. No one asked how the meal was so I wasn’t given the chance to explain. The “ Full English Breakfast” included created bacon and black pudding and cold sausage! !

My nephew had his wedding at the Angel on 30th March so alot of my family stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding and the day of the wedding and I just want to say a huge thankyou to the Brilliant staff that work at the Angel, we had a couple of wedding issues, nothing to do with the hotel but the bar staff went out of their way to help us, nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were good clean and a comfy bed and the food in the bar was lovely and the food for the wedding day and night was amazing.

A party of 20 spent 2 nights and can't praise the place and the staff enough , definitely no negative feedback. Rooms were lovely and spotless and 10 out of 10 for the staff ☆☆☆☆☆ Pleasant staff and nothing was a problem , food for great , nothing was a problem and would definitely return ☆☆

First the good points - good location, bedding clean, breakfast good. Now the bad points, we were told we had been allocated Room 10 away from the noise of the wedding party being held, however entering the room the floor was vibrating due to the extraction system in the kitchen below. There was a constant loud humming noise due to the metal extraction chimney being sited outside the window. The room smelt of cooking fat and the small bathroom even more so. There was an extractor fan in the bathroom but this was broken so the cooking smell came through this. The kitchen turned the fan off when service finished but the smell just stayed. There was a plug in air freshener beside the bed so I got intermittent perfume come chip fat smell. This was in addition to the wall mounted air freshener. We asked if another room was available, the staff member (young lady who was helpful - not sure about the gentleman - possibly the Manager/owner who pulled her away whilst we were talking!) she was apologetic but all rooms were booked. We even looked to find another hotel but it was late evening. The sink in the bathroom didn’t drain & light over mirror didn’t work. Realise it’s not top dollar to stay here but expect a bit better than a smelly room. Looking at other reviews, this room should be taken out of service - it will lose more business than make the hotel money. We often travel north and need a good hotel and would have booked again if it had been a pleasant stay but afraid we will look elsewhere.
