Surf & Sand Resort Laguna Beach

Just one night with an upgraded room from Amex. Best sleep with natural sleep sound machine! Staff so friendly and food was fantastic.

A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sounds of the ocean. The small beach is beautiful. Maxine was a great hostess and greeter. We would love to visit again.

We came here for my mother’s birthday and daughter’s birthday. We arrived at 3pm we booked two rooms and one day was ocean view second day pool view. We wanted both rooms on the same floor. They made it happen but we couldn’t get checked in till 7pm the front desk was apologetic and told us we could stay in the same room for both days. So the pool view was upgraded for one day. As we were leaving the we asked for the new keys and Ken the manager told us we had to switch rooms saying he upgraded us to ocean view for one day not both and we had to check out and wait for our new rooms we had to cancel whale watch and breakfast to do this. But we checked and we paid for ocean view first day and they never upgraded anything. Instead of helping us he just argued with us kind of embarrassing my family and wasted our day. I been coming here almost 8 years but the customer service of this guy makes me rather go to Laguna niguel ritz Carlton same price better customer service is you want to be treated like your staying at a motel or you don’t care about that customer service it’s probably the hotel on Laguna beach but thanks to him we rather go somewhere else for now on where they have better customer service and you can check in and not be treated like a peasant.

I booked a room at the Surf and Sand on July 18, 2025. When I checked in, I was helped at the front desk by a very polite and nice woman named Maxine. She asked the purpose of my stay and I told her that my wife had passed away last year and that day, the 18th, was our 44 year anniversary. We lived in locally and we never stayed at the Surf and Sand, but had been to its restaurant, Splashes, for dinner and also to the hotel for weddings. My wife always loved the sound of the crashing surf that could be heard at the resort. I told Maxine that rather than stay home, I wanted spend our anniversary at your hotel, hear the ocean. Maxine was very nice and understanding. She gave me my key and I went to my room. Although I could hear the sound of the ocean, it was also right above the pool. I hadn't expected that, but I thought it was fine. Even before I started to unpack, Maxine knocked at my door and told me that Surf and Sand would like to offer a complementary upgrade to a room that would better fit the purpose of my stay. Immediately upon entering my new room, I could hear only the crashing waves. I was floored. I am 72, have traveled a lot, and stayed in hotels both grand and unique. I have never had anyone do anything as thoughtful and appreciated as Maxine and Surf and Sand arranged for me. Everything else at the hotel was excellent and its entire staff was professional and polite. No courtesy given me seemed insincere. Still, the extra effort Maxine and Surf and Sand went to make my stay memorable was above and beyond. I am not someone who forgets kindness and I will be telling this story for years.
