Comfort Inn Real la Union

We arrived having traversed three countries in 6 hours to find there was no hot water at the hotel. When quizzed (as they didn't advise at check in) the receptionist just said she didn't know when it would be fixed, later admitted not until the next day after we would have left! So cold showers only! Room was adequate typical of this type of hotel, we had a double bed but there wasn't that much spare room. Wifi was slow and patchy. Pool looked nice but full of kids during our stay. Breakfast not good at all, buffet style - none of our group of 14 enjoyed it! One plus point, plenty of ice in the ice machine in reception!

We were getting the ferry from La Union to Potosi (Nicaragua) the next day so overnighted in the comfort inn in la union. There really isn’t a lot of accomodation options in this port town. I was actually quite surprised to find a hotel of this scale (74 rooms) in such a small place. PROS * SECURITY - Quite a secure area. I think being located about 4km out of town allows them to basically fortify this place. There was a security gate with a guard and two guards on the doors all armed. Rooms all locked up. * ROOM - Our room was clean and had a bed which was comfortable enough. The shower worked although we found the knob very hard to work and the hot water was minimal. There was a TV in the room. It had air conditioning but as the previous reviews have suggested it was located underneath the window, just above the floor and was a bit noisy. Did cool the room though. * WIFI - Free but not particularly fast * BREAKFAST INCLUDED - Buffet affair * POOL - A bit warm but a nice place to hang out in the afternoon and they can do food/drinks in the outdoor area which has some views over the Gulf of Fonseca. CONS * VALUE - We paid 108USD for the night (Included breakfast) but for what we got I thought this was pretty overpriced. * SERVICE - Very slow. Just don’t have enough waiters for guests. They are friendly enough though. They add on the 10% gratuity to the bill. We also ordered a taxi the next morning to get us to the boat on time and it was quite apparent they never bothered to organise this as we had to do it the next morning. * GYM - Despite advertising a gym there was only about 4 pieces of equipment and 2 of them were broken. Overall we had a adequate stay. It was fine for our purpose but isn’t going to be winning any awards anytime soon.
