Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast

Wonderful stay, town is full of nice shops, good dining for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in a,, price ranges. From train rides, to River walks, to nearby Mesa Verde we always were on the move. We stayed at the historic Strater Hotel and were not disappointed

This is the hubby's and my favorite getaway. It's the only place we'll stay in Durango. Gorgeous property. Charming house. Tons of bird activity and other wildlife. Big hot tub! Every room is special and cozy; all with their own bathroom. Well-tended house plants AND outside grounds. Delightful and friendly owners who, after 4 visits and one upcoming, I'm proud to call friends. The Aminas River runs behind the house and the sound of it is so peaceful. You can also hear the train horn a bit as it passes by each morning, (not too loud, but a pleasant, nostalgic sound.) It's close to Durango proper and Purgatory Ski Resort, without being so close that it's noisy. Lovely, light breakfast laid out every morning. Chocolate chip cookies available ALL DAY and they are fantastic! Need to know what to do around the area? Just ask Walter, a literal fount of knowledge and ideas. Want someone kind and sweet who will listen to your stories and stay engaged? That's Jodi. She's such a beautiful person, inside and out. We have visited every single season and it's gorgeous no matter the time of year. Do not pass up a stay here. You'll never know what you missed.

We ❤️ Country Sunshine! We’ve stayed there twice a few years apart, and both times had an excellent experience. The beds are comfy, the delicious breakfast buffet, and sitting on the deck in the pine trees with too many hummingbirds to count so relaxing, it makes all the fun things to do around Durango the cherry on top of staying at CS!

On a road trip, this place made a real change from motels. Walter and Jodi, the owners, bring an Austrian touch to the decor and furnishings, and make guests welcome. The large tables get everyone sitting together and talking to each other, which we really enjoyed. Continental breakfast was fine, and it was nice to have coffee / tea and home-made cookies on tap in the evenings! We only wish we'd had time to stay and watch the birds.

We just came home from three days at Country Sunshine. It was our second visit with Jodie and Walter who continue to provide hospitality over and above what can reasonably be expected. The breakfast buffet each morning allowed us the time to meet other guests indoors OR on the beautiful deck in the pines with an incredible number of hummingbirds, chickadees, black headed bluejays and others for amazement and amusement! There is no wonder why Country Sunshine is the #1 BnB in Durango! We highly recommend it, and thank Walter and Jodie for their hospitality and caring!

The Inn keepers are incredibly kind and thoughtful. Our flight was suppose land at 3:30 pm. We ended up arriving at 1:30 am in the following day. We texted Walter. He left a person note to welcome us and clear signs to help us to find our room easily and connect to WiFi. Our room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. It included bagels, muffins, hard boiled, coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, fruit… there are big-comfortable dining tables inside and outside on the deck. The back deck has lovely mountain views. There are lots hummingbirds and deer to watch. The Inn is in a peaceful-quiet spot. You pull out of the short dirt road and go about 15 minutes straight down route 550 into downtown Durango for restaurants. The hot springs are about 8 minutes away. We sincerely appreciate the wonderful hospitality we experienced at this sweet inn.
