We stayed at a number of quality hotels on our trip through Brazil and Bolivia and this property was clearly the best. This hotel definitely deserves the great reviews and ratings it has received on the various hotel websites. Landing in La Paz is not easy. The altitude of 13,000 feet at the airport hits you almost immediately. After taking an airport cab to the hotel (about 40-60 minutes away), we arrived at the hotel located in the Zona Sur neighborhood of the city which is about 2,000 feet lower than the airport and almost 1000 feet lower than the city center. While the hotel is located away from the city center (about 40-60 minute taxi cab ride away depending on the traffic), it is much lower and therefore a bit better for those susceptible to altitude sickness. And the neighborhood is much nicer, cleaner and far more upscale than most of the city. The hotel ensures its guests comfort and safety. They even have oxygen tanks near the elevator for those with altitude sickness. A pharmacy is across the street which sells Sorochi tablets for altitude sickness. And as you enter the lobby of the hotel, there is always a pot of hot water available for making Mate de coca, a drink traditionally used to address altitude sickness. And for those still a bit dizzy and tired, the hotel offers some great massages downstairs near the pool and jacuzzi. The hotel is just 3 short blocks away from the green station of the newly installed Teleferico, an 11 color coded system of cable cars that transport people above the city. The views are absolutely specatular, particularly at night. The system is easy to use. Payment is made per line at any station. It is cheap, safe and clean. We took a scenic ride around the city and it took us about 2-3 hours which included stops to eat and drink at the stations along the way. Although there are not many restaurants nearby, the hotel has a very good restaurant which provides buffet breakfasts for guests. We noticed at night that prominent locals frequent the restaurant for dinner where local dishes including llama (preferred cooked well done) and trucha (local trout with meat like salmon) are served. We liked both. The service is five star. No question about it. The desk clerk, Josue, is an example of the fine personnel that this organization has hired and trained. Professional, caring and above all friendly, they made our stay on our 2 week tour of this corner of South America a real pleasure.

The pictures were a little off from the room we got, but overall we had a nice stay here. We got in around 4:30am, but check in was quick and easy. We weren't bothered by noise at all as some of the other reviews have stated, although we were on the 4th floor so maybe that made a difference. No heat or cooling that we could find, but with the window open we didn't really need it. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean. Food in the restaurant was actually really good. Overall, I'd stay here again as it was perfectly adequate, especially given the great location and reasonable price.

The hotel is in a good location, 100 meters from the Basilica of San Francisco, about 2 streets on Witch Street, and a few hundred meters walk from the Presidential Capitol. The hotel service is very good, the front desk is very welcoming, and tea snacks are served every day. The restaurant is good for breakfast, lunch and dinner and afternoon tea are good. Basically, dining in La Paz has been chosen at the hotel. The hotel is a historical building remodeled.

Really very helpful staff who communicated well in English. The location is great and the rooms are beyond expectations given the modest price charged by the hotel. The breakfast was adequate rather than expansive. This suited me because I went on tours and hardly had time to have a huge breakfast. Definitely a hotel that serves your needs as a traveler without a hefty price tag. The central location was convenient and allowed your groups to pick up for excursions

We did two stays here during our Bolivia trip. The first was an early arrival and overnight (our flight arrived at 6am - so we had early checkin and that same night). We went to Sun Island for a night then came back for our second stay - an afternoon arrival before flying out the next day. The best part about this hotel is the location. It's near two squares/ plazas that were cool to walk to for some good people watching. We didn't have a car and this hotel was booked by our tour operator. A second positive was a friendly staff. When the property owner doesn't maintain the property, that's not the staffs fault. They were doing their best and I am grateful. I also appreciated the US-able plugs so I didn't need an adapter! 8-) I would actively avoid this hotel in the future. Room #1 - Our first room was absurdly hot and facing a main square. Between the people noise and car horns until 2am, you couldn't open the windows AND sleep. They need to put fans in the room. Room #2 - This was a suite, which had a living room with a lot of space. However, it reached with a scent like bug spray. That made us even more worried that something would tag along in our bag. Restaurant - We did ”breakfast” here both days and tried it for dinner. We don't eat eggs, and a hot omelette right and been good. Aside from that, the pastry and other stuff was very underwhelming. We basically didn't eat breakfast. Overall property is VERY rundown. The carpet in the hallways, the marks all over the hallway walls, and the overall decor are horribly in need up an update. Even a fresh coat of paint would help. If you ONLY want to use this hotel to sleep and shower, think of it like a motel. I wouldn't stay here again.

Excellent value for money, relaxing and great ambiance. The staff are all so friendly and enthusiastic. Especially the dinner time staff at the restaurant. David was so friendly, he was the reason we kept eating at the restaurant instead of going out.
