Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay & Tours

Staying here was the highlight of our month long trip to Viet Nam! The place is wonderful, but the standout of this experience were the hosts / owners. Specially Li, she’s an absolute wonderful person! Cook, host, porter, mother, trekker, entrepreneur, guide (with great English) and a wonderful blend of humor and curiosity. She helped us appreciate Hmong culture and traditions, and engaged in wonderful cross-cultural conversations.

We had a wonderful stay at Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay. Ly and her family were very welcoming (beautiful smiles). The private cabin/hut (with its own bathroom) was clean, comfortable and offered amazing views. In fact there are 360 degree views of rice terraces and the entire valley from this beautiful location. Both the dinner and breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. Ly and her husband treated and toasted to each guest by sharing their home-made rice wine. We went for an easy, self-guided walk around the valley and had the opportunity to see large groups of people working in organized teams planting rice and hand-held plows being pulled by water buffalo.

It's located about 30 minutes by car from Mu cang chau and just above a little village. You have to walk a little steep trail up to get to the stay but this was absolutely no problem for us. The hut was very basic but lovely with a stunning view and nice veranda. Dinner was very good and very cheap. Ly cooked vegetarian for us every night and with free rice- wine. You can do some trekkings nearby and the people in the villages are very kind. We learned a lot about the flower Hmong people and love them.

Mu Cang Chai is a hidden gem of Vietnam. It has some of the most stunning views of terraced rice paddies in Vietnam, without the crowds. Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay had the most amazing views of the area and was set in close proximity to La Pan Tan village, about a 30-minute motorcycle ride from Mu Cang Chai city. The homestay is a series of individual and adorable bungalows, each with its own view of the landscape. The bungalow was simple and clean, with a comfortable bed equipped with a mosquito net and a private bathroom. Each morning we were cooked a fresh and delicious breakfast served in their dining room which had panorama windows looking out at the landscape. It was an incredible way to start each day. Lunch and dinner were also delicious home-cooked meals by Ly, one of the owners. The owners spoke pretty good English. Ly definitely had the best English of anyone we met in the area, and the homestay also had really good wifi. Hello Mu Cang Chai offered many different tours of the area. We booked a guided half-day hike of the surrounding rice paddies followed by a half-day motorcycle tour of the greater Mu Cang Chai area and village. We saw a lot of incredible sights around Mu Cang Chai and it was an amazing way to spend a day. On top of it all, our guide (one of the owners, De) took incredible photos and videos of us throughout the day. It is hard to explain in words how spectacular the scenery was here. I would definitely recommend booking directly with the homestay through Facebook Messenger. Coordinating our stay with the owners through Facebook Messenger was simple and they were able to help coordinate pickup for us from our bus stop after we had the bus driver call them. Once we got to Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay they were able to coordinate everything we could need or want to do in the area at a reasonable price. Make sure to bring VND, since you need to go into the city to get to an ATM. This was a truly incredible experience and one of the highlights of our time in Vietnam. If you are looking for an uncrowded view of incredible rice terraces, Hello Mu Cang Chai Homestay is the place to go. Mu Cang Chai is a hidden gem and La Pan Tan, the village where this homestay is, might just be the most beautiful part of Mu Cang Chai.
