We spent a weekend at the Best Western Ahorn Hotel. We booked a deluxe room with half board. The location at the foot of the Fichtelberg, just two minutes' walk from the valley station of both the lift and the cable car, has both advantages and disadvantages. In general, however, the structure of such small tourist-oriented places is not fragmented. So you are in the immediate vicinity of some winter sports infrastructure, but a bit away from the center of the town. There is a large car park right next to the hotel. The EUR 8.00 quoted here is a reasonable price. Check-in went smoothly. The staff at check-in are always present and happy to answer questions. All of the staff we met over the two days deserve praise. From the cleaner to the manager of the house, they were all friendly and had a pleasant atmosphere. I would particularly like to highlight the young lady in the piano bar for her attentiveness. She didn't even turn down our perhaps somewhat strange request to sit on the veranda when the evening temperature was 10 degrees. She immediately provided us with cushions and checked on us every 15 minutes. Employees like this create a good sense of service. I would also like to give a positive mention to the young trainees from Asia (and keep my fingers crossed for all those who have their final exams this week). The ambience still shows its origins and age in parts. The renovation is an ongoing process. The deluxe rooms in particular, with their rather unusual basic layout, show that there is a past. Two former single rooms - now bookable as classic rooms - form a unit. There are two bathrooms and two entrance areas, although only one of them is usable. The rooms are sufficiently large and bright. The seating area is a useful addition, but unfortunately there is no desk. The bathrooms are quite compact - but at least you have two of them. :D Even in the rooms, not every detail looks brand new - but well maintained. I would say the cleanliness is very good. A small deduction for the quality of sleep. Thanks to the location, it is very quiet and the rooms can be darkened easily, but the pillows and mattresses were a bit too soft for me/us. We found the breakfast buffet to be good. Overall, there were few things to be desired. The fresh food station was the first stop in the morning. We had very different experiences with the evening buffets. On the first evening, the selection of starters and the soup were good. The hot dishes, however, were not convincing. The meat options lacked a possible sauce and the fish fillet was also quite dry. The selection of starters on the second evening was also convincing. The smoked fish in particular was very good. This time, the hot dishes were also much better - I can recommend fish again - this time as a ragout. :D The wellness
