J Residence

Stayed in a twin room with a friend. It's about a 10-minute walk to Mount Kinabalu National Park. The entrance is extremely steep, making it inconvenient for cars to drive in and out. The room is equipped with basic amenities. Hot water is available but not very stable, and there is no hairdryer. There is an outdoor simple kitchen, complete with a gas stove. The view is quite nice. As a barely passing yet conveniently located option for those planning to climb Mount Kinabalu the next day, it works, but it might not offer a great experience for regular tourism.

The room floor was slanted, disposable toiletries weren't provided directly, hot water was inconvenient, and there were cockroaches. However, compared to the much worse and three-times-pricier hotels inside Kinabalu Park, the value for money was quite good. At least it offered bottled water, and there were only cockroaches, no extra hornets. Service: The front desk staff was nice; they specifically asked if I wanted an early check-out and were willing to wake up early to accommodate it. It's a five-minute walk to Kinabalu Park.

This place is super close to Kinabalu Park Headquarters, just a short walk away. There's a Chinese restaurant nearby where you can get Bak Kut Teh and stir-fries. The accommodation itself is like a mountain-style light steel villa, which is really great if you're planning to climb Mount Kinabalu.
