Overnight stay at Rooms Nesti Pros: It was great being in the castle area after the day trippers had left and early in the morning. A pretty unique experience. Cons: The last part of the road and the parking arrangements are a nightmare. Think twice about driving up! We arrived at 2:45pm but our room wasn’t ready for more than an hour. And we couldn’t leave because we had to wait to move the car. Room was basic. Also, someone had turned the water heater off so we had to have cold showers in the evening before going for dinner. Everything felt like a bit of a struggle. We had to go looking for staff quite a few times (eg we weren’t given a key to the room). Communication was very poor. Staff always seemed reluctant to speak to us. The name - Rooms Nesti - is invisible. No signs. Not on any map. It seems to be part of Rooms Merlika - no idea why it has two different names.

The drive-up is much to be desired as the road is slippy with a giant pothole at the bottom. The room I stayed in was next to the bar which caused me a disturbed night's sleep due to an alarm going off intermittently to alert the host someone was there The alarm, which goes off constantly all night, was set off by what I can only assume as cats as we were the only guests staying there. The bed was so uncomfortable bed, having been hard, and the pillows were just as hard. I had a single sheet on a double bed and also discovered the shower mat was wet around the toilet, left by the previous guests. Having stayed in several places whilst travelling around Albania I found this place overpriced for what I could get elsewhere at the faction of the price with much better facilities and a good nights sleep.

The room is on ground floor by bar area so is noisy. The bar has an alarm that beeps when someone passes to alert staff. This is not switched off so keeps you awake all night! The furniture in the room was tired and in some cases broken. The sink is defective.it will fill and not drain so only one of us could wash. No slippers provided and you have a rough stone floor to walk upon. Also only one socket so you have a choice e if air conditioner or bed side light. No fridge

We stayed in this charming family establishment. We had some difficulty finding the address but it is the ideal place to visit the castle and the souk and also admire the surrounding countryside. Keen eyes will see a little dust here and there, but the welcome, the authenticity of the building, the cuisine and the quality/price ratio are well worth 5 stars!

We arrived in the middle of the afternoon in a terrible storm from Shkodër. Last night in Albania after a great three week stay, we wanted to be close to the airport on return to Tirana. As soon as we arrived we felt very good here. The owner is warm and attentive. The storm stopped and we discovered the citadel the hotel is in the center of the ruins. The view became magical over Tirana all the way to Montenegro. The meal was therefore able to be taken outside in absolute calm with the plain and the coast under the setting sun, an exceptional end to the trip. An excellent meal as well as breakfast the next day. Merlika enters the top of our best accommodation in Albania with Klea in Berat, Rosa in Lin and Konaku in Gjirokaster!
