We booked Sea Star House for a 5 night stay following a 2 week tour in SE Asia, thinking we’d be relaxing by the pool! Whoops - no pool! Fortunately it’s very close to the beach which is swimmable. We told ourselves that the money we saved by staying here could go towards experiences (and beer to help us sleep!). Positives: 1. The location is mostly good (see further down), and on the bend as you go along the beachfront. Close to beach, shops, restaurants, night markets and laundry. 2. Daily breakfast was provided at Black Canyon Coffee just next door, and had a range of choices, including good cappuccino, and very friendly staff. 3. The room was large enough, air-con worked efficiently and there’s a fridge and kettle in the room, daily water bottles supplied, along with some toiletries. (No hairdryer that I could find). The bed was firm but comfortable. 4. The room rate was very cheap by Krabi standards, but you get what you pay for! Things to be aware of: 1. There’s no lift, so access to the second and third floors are via stairs. 2. It’s very close to nightclubs and the doof doof music goes on LOUDLY until 1am! We slept with tissues in ears and extra pillows over our heads. 3. Only one room had a balcony that we could see. Our room looked out to the dirty roof and power lines/box, and had a glimpse of the sea. Our friends elected to have a quiet room, which meant no window apart from the small bathroom window. 4. Whilst the room was serviced daily, the linens were very ‘tired’ and need replacing. Places to hang towels to dry were lacking too. 5. Beach towels weren’t always available for use, and the advertised lounge area didn’t really exist. Overall we had a relatively comfortable stay, but next time will research more carefully.
